Gwyneira - Is it "real"?

I have been searching for such a long time to find a name that could use the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. But alas [name_f]Winola[/name_f] is the only one I found that I would consider using and I didn’t truly love it. So I found [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f] the other day and I am wondering is it a real name? Could I drop the G and have Wyneira. I am guessing its pronounced [name_u]Gwyn[/name_u]-[name_u]IRA[/name_u] or [name_u]Gwyn[/name_u]-AYRA. I am not thinking for a first name, but as a middle? - That is if its a legitimate name.

Yes, [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f] is a “real” name. It is Welsh, and means “white snow”. My sources say it can be pronounced gwen-AY-ruh and gwen-EE-rah.

It is a real name, I think it is lovely.

What about [name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] ([name_f]Winnie[/name_f] OR [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], so cute!), [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f], [name_f]Winona[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Anwen[/name_f], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_f]Branwen[/name_f], or maybe even [name_f]Dwyn[/name_f]? Lots of awesome Welsh options, actually

I only really like [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] (which is too much like [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]) or [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and both are a bit too trendy. There’s [name_f]Winsome[/name_f], Winnipeg, Kaywinnet and [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]… but ehhh

It’s real. Pronounced ‘gwin-AY-ra’.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you reckon this recording on forvo is saying -EE-ra or AY-RUH? I can’t tell :frowning:

He’s saying ‘gwin-AY-ra’ with a Welsh accent  People in south [name_m]Wales[/name_m] do say ‘gwin-EYE-ra’ but - in terms of genuine, accurate Welsh, ‘ei’ is definitely ‘ay’. The sound ‘eye’ would be ‘ae’, from what I remember.

Thanks RenRose  Being an aussie I have no idea about the correct Welsh pronounciation. What do you think would be a nice first name?

Hmm. I’m not very good at this… Off the top of my head:

[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f]

I think it definitely has to be something that doesn’t end in ‘a’.
