I love the name [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] (as my great grandfather was a gypsy and I think it’s a good tribute to him). -[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is my nan’s MN (my great grandads daughter in law).
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is ok as FN or would you use it as a MN. If MN can you suggest some FNs for it.
Also some suggestions of FNs for the MN [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]. - [name_f]May[/name_f] is my boyfriends nan’s MN. [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] is my nan’s fave flower.
I have a daughter [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] so it would need to sound ok with her name as well. And the surname Kitcher.
I’m just going to throw this out there (just for common knowledge) but the name [name_u]Romany[/name_u] means gypsy.
I think it has the ‘ro’ from rose and the meaning from your grandpa.
I always saw it as a girls name and I love the meaning.
I do like the phonetics of [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f], but I would be hesitant before using it as a first name. A world-class lawyer, political figure, or intellectual named [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]? [name_m]Just[/name_m] seems odd. I think as a mn it would be fine. If [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] has a hyphenated first, are you looking for another hypenation? [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is classic and [name_m]French[/name_m], and I think [name_f]Marie[/name_f] combos might work nice. Such as:
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_f]Christine[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_f]Margaux[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_f]Celine[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]-[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
etc.
As for [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f], I like that better as individual names, but the flow isn’t as pleasing as [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f] sounds okay if you were thinking of that. I still like all my first names, if you’re looking to hyphenate. If not…
(not all of these go with [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f] they just popped into my head)
I’m not really wanting another hyphen which is why I’d use [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f] more as a MN to a FN. - I just wanted people’s opinions on it.
I love [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]. - I’d use [name_f]Bethan[/name_f] though as I’m welsh.
I love [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Quintessa[/name_f] but I know my boyfriend is not for that.
I like [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] better as a middle name as well as I think [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] is a little too strong a statement to give a child as a first name. It is nice though.
Why not combine [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]May[/name_f] to get [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosey[/name_f]
but on the original question of [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]-[name_f]May[/name_f] vs [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]… I prefer [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f].
It seems almost magical
Did you know that [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] was a burlesque dancer who was famous for her striptease? That’s the association many people will have with that name. [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] is also a derogatory term for the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] or [name_u]Romany[/name_u] people so I don’t think it’s appropriate. [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is pretty but I don’t like [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] Kitcher very much. Neither name has the style of [name_f]Amy[/name_f]-[name_f]Louise[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]! So gorgeous. I agree that [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a bad choice. It could be a negative term. If you have to use it, I would only use it in the middle.
I come from a [name_u]Romany[/name_u] gypsy back ground and although I’m not like the normal gypsy as I don’t live in a caravan but I consider myself a gypsy although I don’t do things the done gypsy way I still have gypsy blood in me.
Is there any other Names that would be good as a second to gypsy.
I leaning more towards lavender and [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] both being middle names.

This was my first thought as well. [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] was quite a fun person but I’m not sure I’d want that to be the first association someone had when hearing my daughters name. If you really love [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] I’d suggest changing [name_f]Rose[/name_f] to something else. (Maybe a different flower name could still honor your [name_f]Nan[/name_f].
To honor your Romani heritage I’d choose a name that is traditionally Romani.
There was a NB blog a little while ago: Gypsy Baby Names: Real Romani Names – Baby Name Blog - Nameberry
Also behindthename.com has a few: I particularly like: Aishe, [name_f]Miri[/name_f] ([name_f]Miri[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]), [name_f]Sirena[/name_f], and [name_f]Esma[/name_f] ([name_f]Esma[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f]).
But to your original question: I prefer [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] because of my associations to [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-[name_f]Rose[/name_f].
I prefer [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], but two first name are not really my thing (two middle names, on the other hand…) What about [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] Kitcher? I know it sounds prejudiced and unfair but [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f]-anything doesn’t really sound like she could be a lawyer or a doctor to me. Sorry. Good luck though!
Thank you. - everyone. I kinda like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] but I feel it’s too much flower with rose.
Off the [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] names I like Brittania, [name_f]Charity[/name_f], [name_f]Kezia[/name_f], [name_f]Naomie[/name_f] (Can’t use because of my daughter though) [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Patience[/name_f], [name_f]Trinity[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]. - I also love [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] which isnt on there but [name_f]Sabina[/name_f] is. - I love [name_m]Llewellyn[/name_m] & [name_m]Stefan[/name_m] for a boy names.
I have relations who are [name_u]Romany[/name_u] [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] which is why I like the name.
[name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] was a very famous stripper! Be careful because that’s going to be an association for a huge number of people, especially for the baby boomer generation. The musical [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] might be worth a watch before using the name. I vote [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]!
I’m leaning more towards [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f]… Any FN’s to go with [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f].
