I came across this name the other day, and remembered how cool I use to think this name was (and still is)… it made me wonder, has the name [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] been forgotten?
In a world of [name_f]Indie[/name_f]'s, [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]'s, [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]'s and [name_u]Rebel[/name_u]'s, could [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] make a come back?
What would you pair [name_f]Gypsy[/name_f] with? What about sibsets?
Oh that’s really interesting, I didn’t realize it had such a negative association/insult to others.
I mostly liked the name for the hippie lifestyle/mindset association, and the meaning “Wanderer”. The name was also used in Gilmore Girls, which I grew up watching.
Sorry, it just comes across as really insensitive/borderline offensive to me. It sounds like things might be different in the US, but “gypsy” and slang terms derived from it are very frequently used here in the UK to talk about the traveller community in an ignorant or pejorative way. Totally inappropriate as a given name, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I can see why the sound/imagery appeals, though. [name_m]How[/name_m] about something similar, like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Rumer[/name_f], [name_f]Gemma[/name_f], [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], Betony, [name_f]Pansy[/name_f], [name_f]Peony[/name_f], [name_f]Kirrily[/name_f]…
