So, DH was able to go through my list (very quickly and decisively as men seem to be able to do!) and we ended up with just 3 names on the list. Which, is really what I was hoping for. The funny thing is that 2 of the 3 names were the names I’d thought of prior to doing a week’s worth or research! Strangely they all begin with the letter R!
Our other two boys are [name]William[/name] [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] Surname (we call him [name]Toby[/name]) and [name]Augustus[/name] [name]Jeremy[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] Surname (we call him [name]Gus[/name] or [name]Gussie[/name]).
I think that [name]Ralph[/name] would go best with [name]Augustus[/name] and [name]William[/name]/[name]Toby[/name]. [name]Just[/name] wondering is there any significance to [name]Seaton[/name]?
[name]Seaton[/name] is a family name that all the boys on my father’s side have as a 2nd middle name (not quite sure why that is - but I wanted to continue the tradition). On my husband’s side all of the first born males of each family are called [name]William[/name], so I thought it would be good to continue some tradition from my side of the family.
I have 2 slight concerns about our name choices:
DH is still luke warm on [name]Ralph[/name] - he says there is a character in the Simpsons calls that (someone’s son?) and he gets picked on all the time. He said anyone who watches the [name]Simpson[/name]'s would think of that (a lot of people). I have no clue what he’s talking about of course!
[name]Rufus[/name] - personally I really like the name as I did know someone called [name]Rufus[/name] (who was gorgeous!) BUT, do you think it’s a dog’s name?!
I still like all 3 names but just trying to think what other people may think of and not set my children up for teasing!
[name]Ralph[/name]- Reminds me of barf, honestly. I think this name would be easily teased.
[name]Rufus[/name]- Yes, this screams dog imo. Also, rhymes with “doofus.”
[name]Rupert[/name]- This is hands down the best name on the list. It is very handsome!
[name]Ralph[/name]-I find this name hard to say and it reminds me of [name]Rolf[/name] from the Sound of [name]Music[/name] (who ended up being a Nazi). So I don’t like this one.
[name]Rufus[/name]- Yes, I think this is a dog name. Completely.
[name]Rupert[/name]- So cute and perfect with your boys’ names!
Like a previous poster I associate [name]Ralph[/name] with the Nazi ‘[name]Rolf[/name]’ from The Sound of [name]Music[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name] seems like a dog’s name to me.
[name]Rupert[/name] [name]Barnaby[/name] [name]Seaton[/name] Surname Without a doubt this has to be baby’s name. [name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Barnaby[/name] what a great combo.
I just love [name]Rupert[/name] I do hope you choose this gorgeous name!
I didn’t read all the posts, but [name]Rupert[/name] is definitely, without a doubt my favourite - it has always seemed like a more mature [name]Rufus[/name] to me. And [name]Ralph[/name] perpetually reminds me of [name]Ralph[/name] Wiggum on the Simpsons so I’m a bit biased
I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Rufus[/name]. I have never personally met a dog called [name]Rufus[/name]. And I think once you say, 'this is my sweet little baby/big bright schoolboy/pimply yet lovable adolescent/tall manly son [name]Rufus[/name]" no one’s going to think of a golden retriever.
I know too many middle-aged men named [name]Ralph[/name]. Like someone else said, it reminds me of [name]Rolf[/name] from The Sound of [name]Music[/name] who ended up being a Nazi.
My friend used to have a dog named [name]Rufus[/name] who everyone called [name]Rufus[/name] the Doofus. So a big “no” from me on that one.
