Hadley?

I usually don’t go for names like this, but I’m name crushing on [name]Hadley[/name] at the moment. Thoughts? Is it a keeper? Does it sound too masculine? What kind of image do you get of someone named [name]Hadley[/name]?

I really like [name]Hadley[/name]! I think of a very feminine girly girly named [name]Hadley[/name]. I liked it for a girls name but DH vetoed.

I love [name]Hadley[/name] - I’m normally not a fan of unisex names, either. I love the [name]Hemingway[/name] connection, as well as the connection to the [name]Seven[/name] Sisters Colleges - Mount Holyoke is in South [name]Hadley[/name], Mass., so it’s actually completely appropriate for a girl.

It’s not my style at all, I hate anything to with the word [name]Heather[/name] from personal associations. Since [name]Hadley[/name] means heathery fields I am automatically against it. The only thing that makes me like it is the potential for the NN [name]Hattie[/name]

I really like [name]Hadley[/name]. I do feel tempted to spell it [name]Hadlee[/name] as it looks prettier to me.

Ugh, me too! I’ve ruled out unisex names as FNs for my future daughters, because I have one and still wish I had a name that was 100% feminine, but I really, really like [name]Hadley[/name] right now! I think it’s respectable, sweet, charming, down-to-earth. I would love to meet a [name]Hadley[/name]. I think stylistically (not popularity or trend-wise, but just how the name feels) it’s quite similar to [name]Ashley[/name], so maybe that’s why I like it so much, because I really do like my name. It sort of reminds me of a meadow of heather or something, which is such a natural, pretty image for me.

I like it. It’s a soft surname, not too masculine and not too feminine so I love it on boys and girls. I personally shy away from surnames that aren’t family names

I like the sound of it, but I’m afraid it’s about to have a popularity explosion. It’s getting really overdone in [name]Louisiana[/name] already.

[name]Hadley[/name] is a keeper<3 I don’t think it sounds masculine at all-Hadley makes me think of a smart, independant, sweet girl. It would make a great fn or mn.

I like it but I think it might depend on how it sounded with the surname. I don’t think it is too masculine but would be nice paired with an ultra-feminine middle name. I have also been crushing on [name]Harriet[/name], nn [name]Hattie[/name] or just [name]Hattie[/name] though I can’t use with my surname.

I actually just met a girl named [name]Hadley[/name], who is really confident, clever, and nice, so the name has grown on me a bit. However, when she introduced herself, my first thought was, ugh, I hate that name. Initially, I imagined someone trendy (as opposed to stylish or elegant) and spoiled. It gets associated in my mind with [name]Hailey[/name]/[name]Haley[/name] etc.

My mother-in-law’s maiden name is [name]Hadley[/name]. She asked my husband to ask me if we would use it for our daughter’s middle name. At the time, [name]Hadley[/name], as a girl’s name, ranked at 965, so it was virtually unheard of. I was aghast at the thought of giving my only baby girl a surname as her middle name, and I turned down the request. My husband and I had already agreed on the middle name [name]Jane[/name], which I had always planned for my daughter’s middle name. Anyway, I find it very ironic that [name]Hadley[/name] has now become a well-known girl’s name. I am not generally a fan of surnames and unisex names on girls, but I have to admit that [name]Hadley[/name] is not half bad.

I think it’s ugly and masculine, I’m sorry.

I actually know a [name]Hadley[/name]! She’s about 15, a total beauty, and a sweetheart! The name has good connotations for me because of her. She’s a gorgeous, lithe dancer with a happy disposition  Her friends call her Haddles (I think) which is kind of cute

Not my usual style of name either, but I do like [name]Hadley[/name]. I think it sounds feminine enough.

[name]Do[/name] you want my honest opinion? I hope so because I don’t want to sugar coat my opinion. As a name for a lovely daughter it is really horrible it is a plain, boring name without any femininity at all. I would never suggest it.

rollo

I have to agree with [name]Rollo[/name], I’m afraid. And with the poster above who said it sounds ugly and masculine.

Sorry, I get zero vibe of ‘sweet’ or ‘elegant’ or ‘feminine’ from this name.

It’s also reminiscent of Hailey or Bradley - very dated and plain.

Am I the only one who thinks [name]Hadley[/name] sounds like someone from [name]Boston[/name] saying “hardly”? Maybe that’s not actually how a Bostonite sounds but it’s close to how people who imitate them sounds.

It feels like it’s another [name]Haley[/name] explosion. I don’t know. I don’t think it’s awful, but it feels rather plain and trendy to me.

I had a little crush on the name a little while ago too. My DH vetoed it bc he thought it was masculine and my cousin said it sounded like [name]Hadley[/name] is trying too hard. I have met two little girls recently with that name and they are both precious!! I live in the South and think the name is catching on here popularity wise. I personally think its a pretty name. The reason I wouldn’t use it is for fear of what others have said…trying too hard or a newer version of [name]Hailey[/name] which is trashy, [name]IMO[/name].
