HAL-p me with suggestions! 🧸

Hi all!!

Please ignore the extremely punny-yet-unfunny title (creativity isn’t quite working yet today haha)

My partner and I both love the nickname [name_m]Hal[/name_m] for a boy. He feels very laid-back yet strong and classic at the same time, and he’s just such a fun nickname.

However, we don’t love a lot of the names [name_m]Hal[/name_m] is traditionally short for (Henry / Harold), and we’d love some more out-there ideas for how to get to [name_m]Hal[/name_m]. Right now our favorite is [name_m]Holden[/name_m], though if you are familiar with my naming style, you’ll know he’s a little too common for me.

I’m open to stretchy, similar, whatever you can think of!! Thanks all :green_heart:

I mean… I enjoyed your humor  my coworker and I shamelessly exchange dad jokes every day tho so maybe I’m your demographic :joy:

A few ideas:

  • [name_m]Cathal[/name_m]

  • [name_m]Herschel[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Marshall[/name_m]

  • [name_f]Shalom[/name_f]
  • [name_m]Adalbert[/name_m] (especially something like [name_m]Adalbert[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], or something, maybe?)
  • [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] or [name_m]BarthĆ©lĆ©my[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Fingal[/name_m]
  • Halcyoneus (maybe a bit much even for you hahahahaha)
  • Haldo
  • Haldir (LOTR name)

  • [name_m]Sorrel[/name_m]
  • [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m]

Good luck!

I love the name [name_m]Hal[/name_m] too, although I like the Norwegian name [name_m]Harald[/name_m] with the nn [name_m]Hal[/name_m].

My favorite for [name_m]Hal[/name_m] is the name [name_m]Hallam[/name_m], which comes from [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_m]Lord[/name_m] Tennyson’s poem ā€œIn Memoriam,ā€ written to remember his friend [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Hallam[/name_m]. [name_m]Hallam[/name_m] is easy to spell, easy to say, and obviously [name_m]Hal[/name_m] would be the nn.

Some of these suggestions are brilliant! The only one I can think of that has not been mentioned yet is [name_m]Halvard[/name_m].

I love a pun

Only one idea to add for friendly [name_m]Hal[/name_m], a variation of @ashthedreamer 's suggestion of [name_m]Heliodoro[/name_m]: [name_m]Heliodor[/name_m] :gem_stone:

[name_m]Harrison[/name_m]?

I think any variation on [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Harold[/name_m] could work, but depending on how unusual your taste in names is I do think [name_m]Halcyon[/name_m] or [name_m]Callahan[/name_m] are cool options.

Fun fact, my brother is a [name_m]Holden[/name_m] who went by [name_m]Hal[/name_m] as a child! I’ve met exactly two other people with the name [name_m]Holden[/name_m] besides my brother and none of them used [name_m]Hal[/name_m]. I think any name that starts with an H and then a vowel could be called [name_m]Hal[/name_m].
