Haldor?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, how would you pronounce [name_m]Haldor[/name_m]? I recently discovered this name in an old hymnal; it means “Thor’s rock/stone”. I feel like it’s pronounced “hal-door”, but part of me could also say it “hull-der”. Thoughts, please? Thank you!

[name_f]My[/name_f] instinct would be hall-dore, the first syllable like the word ‘hall’ or ‘haul’ (I pronounce them the same) and second like the word ‘door’ (which for me rhymes with more, nor, four, etc.)

I wouldn’t be surprised if the first syllable were hal (rhymes with ‘pal’) or hull instead though, or the second syllable like ‘der’/‘durr’.

Your first instinct is how I would say it also

I too would say it Hal-door/Hal-dore

The nn [name_m]Hal[/name_m] is nice too!

Thank you all for the input! Maybe I’ll use [name_m]Haldor[/name_m] in one of my writing projects one day…

HAL-door

Like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Isidore[/name_m], but with a [name_m]Hal[/name_m] instead of [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Isi[/name_m].
