I’ve really been loving the name [name_u]Harbor[/name_u]/Harbour (still undecided on spelling) lately and I’d love to add it to my list - it has the beachy, fun feel I seem to be into right now, it’s sweet, unique, but familiar enough.
My biggest reservation is that [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] may be too close in sound to [name_u]Harper[/name_u]. I worry that because [name_u]Harbor[/name_u]’s still kind of unusual as a name, it might be defaulted to [name_u]Harper[/name_u] a lot.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] would always be mistaken for [name_u]Harper[/name_u] as a name?
I definitely prefer [name_u]Harbor[/name_u] over [name_u]Harper[/name_u] myself. I think it’s a possibility that they could be mistaken for each other on the playground but I wouldn’t let it deter you from using/liking it! It should be easy for people to grasp after one simple explanation.
I agree with the others. It might be mistaken for [name_u]Harper[/name_u], it might not! I like it much more than [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and I think you should keep it on your list.
It would be defaulted to [name_u]Harper[/name_u], and you’d have to keep correcting people. But hopefully, for the people that matter, you’d corrected them once, and they’d know.
Personally, I don’t think I would confuse the two when spoken, but I live in a country where [name_u]Harper[/name_u] isn’t a very common name either. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it does confuse people, I agree with previous posters that it would be easy to correct.
You might get a mix up every now and then, but I agree with the others: a simple correction is all it would take. [name_u]Harbor[/name_u]/Harbour is really cool and has a totally different vibe than the ultra-popular, fussy [name_u]Harper[/name_u].
[name_u]Harbor[/name_u] is sweet and preppy, a la [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] or [name_m]Crew[/name_m] or [name_u]Navy[/name_u].
Sure, it might be mistaken for [name_u]Harper[/name_u], but no more than [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] is mistaken for [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], or [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] for [name_f]Joanna[/name_f], or [name_f]Patty[/name_f] for [name_u]Patsy[/name_u].
