Harder than I thought!

Well, I’m back again. We’ve been simmering over names for a while, but my ultrasound appointment threw us for a loop–it’s TWINS!! The doctor says it looks like a boy and a girl (although I didn’t see the screen for that part because we were waiting to find out until the weekend).

So…now I need not one name, but two, and I’m having a difficult time finding ones that I love equally and ones my husband agrees with. Not unlike many couples, we have very different tastes. We settled on [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] for our firstborn ([name_m]Scott[/name_m] is a family name), but this time around is proving more challenging!

Being twins, I have a couple criteria: I don’t want matchy-matchy, so no rhyming and preferably no duplicate initials. I know there’s all sorts of cute ways to names twins, but I want to maintain their individuality as much as possible, knowing they’ll get lumped together as a pair a lot for the first 10-15 years of their life! So, names that compliment each other, but not obviously twins, if that makes sense. The other main thing is I want gender-distinct names so there’s no question which is the boy and which is the girl or if they’re both boys/girls. (My one exception to that is we’ve considered [name_f]Adrienne[/name_f]. My hesitation, of course, is that it looks feminine on paper, but out loud could be confused with [name_m]Adrian[/name_m].)

We also lost two babies, [name_f]Karis[/name_f] [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] and [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] (not twins), so we’ve considered incorporating parts of their names in honor of them. Not absolutely set on it, but something we’re keeping in mind. Our last name is similar to [name_m]Clay[/name_m]-[name_m]Cole[/name_m], so we have to be careful with C/K names, although, again, not completely ruling them out.

So [deep breath]…here is our list of names so far that haven’t been vetoed by either of us. Some of them he likes more than I do, and vice versa, but it at least gives you an idea of where we’re starting.

[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Adrienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]” (Hubby recently vetoed this after it being a top contender, so I’m hopeful he’ll recant.)
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] (ditto)
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]

[name_m]Trevor[/name_m]
[name_m]William[/name_m] “[name_m]Will[/name_m]”
[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] “[name_m]Eli[/name_m]”
[name_u]Brennan[/name_u]
[name_u]Carson[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
[name_m]Todd[/name_m]

And now some names I like but hubby has vetoed (that I still slightly hold out hope for):
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] (his current boss who nobody likes)
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] (probably “Chessa”)
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]
[name_f]Elin[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Livia[/name_f]

[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_m]Ned[/name_m] (after my grandfather)
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]

So we’re kind of all over the place, if you can’t tell! What are your suggestions? We’re so far from having names, we’ll take whatever help we can get!

Thanks,
[name_f]LARK[/name_f]

I really like [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] from your list

What about?

[name_f]Julianna[/name_f] - has aspects of [name_f]Adrianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Jeannine[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Anabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] - honor for [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f]

[name_m]Nicolas[/name_m] - slight honor name to [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_u]Micah[/name_u]
[name_m]Travis[/name_m] - interesting mash up of [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] and [name_f]Karis[/name_f]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] - nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m] is usually for a variant of [name_m]Edward[/name_m]

For honor names to [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] and [name_f]Karis[/name_f], what about a girls name that ends in [name_m]Ty[/name_m] like [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]/[name_f]Charity[/name_f]/[name_f]Verity[/name_f]/[name_f]Misty[/name_f]/[name_f]Katy[/name_f] and then boys names that end in -ris like [name_u]Chris[/name_u]/[name_m]Harris[/name_m]/[name_m]Morris[/name_m]

What about [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]?
Most of the agreed upon girls names are NMS, but I do like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], and [name_m]William[/name_m] from your boys list…more classic sounding, seem to match the girls’ names better.

And now, for some random (hopefully helpful) suggestions:

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Evalyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Julianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f]

[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_u]Carter[/name_u]
[name_u]Brady[/name_u]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_m]Matteo[/name_m]

Some great suggestions! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I like some of them myself, my husband is pretty particular and most are a no-go. I do kind of understand though. There are a lot of names that I really like that just don’t seem right for OUR babies, even though I’d love to see them on someone else’s!

We went through more lists last night and came up with a few more maybe’s for girls. (We’ll get to boys later, but girl names have proven harder for us, so we’re starting there.)

[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_u]Andrea[/name_u] (probably ahn-dray-a instead of ann-drea)
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]/a
[name_f]Kendra[/name_f]
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (nn for something besides [name_f]Margaret[/name_f])
[name_u]Sierra[/name_u]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] (possibly a nn for [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f])
[name_f]Kylie[/name_f] (NMS, but staying on the list for now)

More food for thought at least…

[name_f]LARK[/name_f]

With [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m], I really like:

GG - [name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
BB - [name_m]Trevor[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] and [name_m]Todd[/name_m]
GB - [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_m]Todd[/name_m]
