If it weren’t for our last name, I’d be set on a girl name. [name]Harriet[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I [name]LOVE[/name] it! [name]Harriet[/name] is my husband’s grandma’s name and she’s a spunky little lady that I’d really like to name a child after. [name]Elizabeth[/name] is my middle name and a long time family name. But our last name is Manis and I’m just afraid [name]Harriet[/name] Manis might come up against some ridicule. What are y’all’s thoughts on this?
Also, here is my list. There are a lot of great names in it, but none that are standing out to me as much as [name]Harriet[/name]. Maybe some insight from others will help. Names with * are family names or variations of family names. Names with ? are favorites of my DH’s.
I like [name]Harriet[/name] too, but I do see a bit of teasing potential with [name]Harriet[/name] Manis… from your other choices, I like [name]Helena[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], and [name]Lucille[/name] best. I think they sound best with your last name. Good luck!
[name]Harriet[/name] Manis does sound a little funny, but it’s not awful. It’s not like she woud be named [name]Harriet[/name] Pitts. From your list I like Sibul, [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Helena[/name], and [name]Flora[/name]… which is almost all of them…
I think that you should take another look at [name]Harriet[/name], I can’t think of anything to tease with [name]Harriet[/name] Manis.
Sorry but [name]Harriet[/name] Manis has the potential for disaster. But you do have some names on your list that I just love. [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Luna[/name] are beautiful names and work with your last name. I especially love the MM alliteration.
We actually are planning to homeschool at least starting out. The thing is, we live in the south and our last name has two pronunciations. The first being like praying mantis and the second being like anus with an M on the front. Granted, unless we tell them otherwise, most people pronounce it like mantis, but here in the south it ends up sounding more like man-ass. So I’m not just worried about Hairy [name]Man[/name]. I’m also worried about “Hairy Anus” and “Hairy [name]Man[/name] Ass”. And sure she won’t have to worry about it as long as she’s not in school, but what if we decide to put her in public or private school during high school? What about college? Are adults going to make fun of her? Good grief! My brother in-law called my son “Bent Over [name]Man[/name]” when he first heard his name! It makes me furious. I guess I should move on from [name]Harriet[/name], but it’s not going to be easy.
[name]Hattie[/name] is adorable! …as a nickname. I feel like she should have a full name option to her. It’s hard for me to picture a doctor or lawyer or president being called [name]Hattie[/name]. lol
Totally didn’t get why [name]Harriet[/name] Manis would leave your daughter open to ridicule. Then I read a post that referred to “hairy man”. I guess it’s different in [name]America[/name]! In Australia, our accent doesn’t pronounce [name]Harry[/name] and Hairy the same way (thank god, because [name]Harriet[/name] is one of my favourite names too!). ANYWAY, I [name]LOVE[/name] your name choices! I really like them all. I realise this is an old post, so I won’t bother saying which names I liked best! Suffice to say, they’re all lovely
I love [name]Annora[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Rosalind[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Mirabelle[/name].
What about [name]Mehitabel[/name]? Nn [name]Hattie[/name]?
But I do think [name]Hazel[/name] ( honor the H) and [name]Olive[/name] are as spunky as [name]Hattie[/name].
I would personally go for [name]Henrietta[/name] too- as it’s similar to [name]Harriet[/name] (and as [name]Harry[/name] is a diminutive of [name]Henry[/name]). All very pretty names, btw
