There are a LOT of interesting names in the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] series, and I’m trying to figure out which ones are actually usable in the real world. I’m posting a similar thread in the Boys category, this is just girls names. What do you think?
I’m not a big HP girl (actually hate the series, but that’s a whole different story, haha), but I love [name]Aurora[/name]! [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is my top choice for a girl. I also like and would possibly consider (in the right combo) [name]Luna[/name], [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Mirabella[/name]/[name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Araminta[/name], [name]Ginevra[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Bellatrix[/name] (although I prefer [name]Beatrix[/name] and [name]Isabelle[/name]/[name]Isabella[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name]/[name]Annabella[/name]/[name]Mirabelle[/name]/[name]Arabella[/name]), and [name]Rowena[/name].

I would use [name]Ginevra[/name] out of the choices on the list.
I love some of them but wouldn’t use them for certain reasons, others there is no way I would ever even consider them, haha.
[name]Hermione[/name] - No. Too recognizable as a HP character, though lovely.
[name]Ginevra[/name] - I love this name, but can’t see using it on an actual child.
[name]Luna[/name] - I would use it maybe as a middle name.
[name]Andromeda[/name] - Middle name.
[name]Celestina[/name] - Nope. Not my style.
Jocelind - Looks too made up.

[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name. Is one of my neices, so won’t be using it myself

[name]Lavender[/name] - I like this, but probably not enough to ever consider using it. Maybe in one of my stories.
[name]Araminta[/name] - I really like this for some reason. Not sure if I would ever actually use it, though.
[name]Bellatrix[/name] - Nope. And not just because the character is awful. I just don’t care for the name.
Nymphadora - All I think is Nymphomaniac and [name]Dora[/name] the [name]Explorer[/name]. Though I love Tonks, her given name is just not on my radar.
Lysandra - I love the name [name]Lysander[/name] for a boy, so I like this as well. But I think I’ll leave it just on my boys list.
[name]Narcissa[/name] - Narcissistic.
Elladora - Meh.
[name]Marietta[/name] - A town in Pennsylvania where my two brothers-in-law are from.
[name]Rowena[/name] - [name]Love[/name]. Would totally use it.
[name]Honoria[/name] - I prefer simple [name]Honor[/name], but likely wouldn’t ever use that.
[name]Pansy[/name] - Can’t get past the way this one would be teased.
[name]Minerva[/name] - Oh I love Professor McGonagall! Not sure if I could use the name though.
[name]Astoria[/name] - Not my style. Plus, isn’t there a hotel somewhere call the [name]Astoria[/name], or am I imagining that? It might have just been in a tv show, haha.

Unless you have a dear Aunty [name]Minerva[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] I wouldn’t touch the big names!! [name]Lavender[/name] [name]Honoria[/name] would be really nice though!

[name]Just[/name] be careful that if you are purposely using one of these names as a reference to [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name], to choose a desirable character to be named after, I’ll break it down:

[name]Andromeda[/name] - Not a well known character and not in the movies so I don’t think people would make the HP connection - they may think its a bit unusual though.
[name]Aurora[/name] - Common enough not to be only linked to HP. I like this name.
[name]Emmeline[/name] - Also common enough not to be linked to HP.
[name]Astoria[/name] - Love this, HP connection is not as in your face as say Lily/Hermione.
Awesome but maybe too in your face Harry Potter - could be a cool mn

This post just made me realize I have/had 9 of these names on my personal list… =( Not happy about that. I never read the books so I didn’t realize. So basically, [name]Minerva[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Araminta[/name], and [name]Lavender[/name] (middle) are on my current list, [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Andromeda[/name] nn [name]Andie[/name], [name]Luna[/name] (middle), and [name]Hermione[/name] (middle) used to be on my list, and I would have loved [name]Bellatrix[/name] if it weren’t for HP. I also love [name]Ginevra[/name], [name]Celestina[/name] and [name]Astoria[/name].
But I know everyone loves [name]Emmeline[/name] and it isn’t always thought of as a HP name, and people seem to be ok with [name]Araminta[/name] and [name]Minerva[/name]…so maybe its ok?
Luna - Love the name, plus it’s in my language (Spanish), and I love the night and the Moon. Ginevra - It’s not one of my favourites but the nickname Ginny is awsome. Cassiopeia - I think of infinite nicknames. Dorea - I don’t know, it has something… Ariana - Just loved it. Marjorie - Hate the character, love the name. Narcissa - It’s lovely. Olympe - It’s so elegant and high class. Padma - Weird and awsome. Alicia - Spanish version of Alice, loved it. Andromeda - So, so , so amazing. Septima - It’s strict, cold, I don’t know, I like this kind of names. Daphne - Greek mythology is beautiful and so the name. Hedwig - Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Astoria - It’s just sharp, or something like that I don’t know how to describe it.
I love [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] names! I probably wouldn’t use [name_f]Narcissa[/name_f], because of it’s meaning and closeness to narcissistic. And probably not Nymphadora, even though I like it, because the nymph, part isn’t great, and she hated her name as well. I’d use the rest if I liked them enough, even [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], but I love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] more, so I won’t have to worry about the character. I like a few of the HP boys names, [name_m]Remus[/name_m] and [name_m]Ronald[/name_m] are my latest crushes.
