Harry Potter Problems

My last name is [name_u]Raven[/name_u], I’m expecting my fourth child and this time around I’m loving mythological names. When I mention any name I like to ANYONE (including my husband) I get met with ‘no, that sounds like a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] character’!
I love [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] and there are definitely worse things to be associated with, but I do worry about my daughter being taken seriously if she decides to be a serious person (like a lawyer, for example). My litmus test for names is this- imagining my child’s name on a plaque in an art gallery, imagining my child’s name on a law firm sign and imagining my child’s name on a name tag (at a bank or something). If the name is versatile enough not to pigeon hole them or have people make assumptions about their parents/upbringing (that their parents must have been crazy hippies, for example) then it goes on the pile for consideration.
I’m not sure any of my current names pass this test!
I’m inclined to think ‘to hell with what everyone else thinks!’ BUT this is a name that my child will carry forever.
I currently love [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], I’ve also considered [name_f]Anonna[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. I won’t consider anything that’s in the top one hundred in the UK or [name_f]Canada[/name_f] (I’m English living in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]). I should add that my other children have traditional but not too popular, three syllable names that are shortened to cute nicknames. Nicknames are also important in my family so that’s something I also look for in a name.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think my current choices are too [name_m]Harry[/name_m] potter-esque to be taken seriously? Are there any names I am missing? I’m open to the idea of non mythological, simple names as long as they aren’t in the top 100. I like names that end in ‘a’ and I love a good nickname. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I personally think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] has a big association to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] but [name_f]Athena[/name_f],[name_u]Artemis[/name_u],[name_f]Annona[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] are okay .

I think my wording may have been a bit vague, but my concern is that mythological names are going to sound too much like story book character names when paired with my last name [name_u]Raven[/name_u].

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] is definitely the name that I keep coming back to! Beyond the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] potter connection, my concerns are 1, will it get super popular? And 2, my husband is worried that it sounds like ‘loony raving’ when paired with our last name [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. He thinks it will be an easy name to make fun of.

I like [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. I do not like the others and agree that they sound potteresque.

I like the names on your list and I don’t think they sound too much like story-book or fairytale character names to be used. In fact, I think it’s nice that they sound sort of whimsical. Was [name_f]Luna[/name_f] Lovegood in Ravenclaw? I can’t remember, but if she was, I guess maybe people would make that association? Personally, I think it’s still usable.

I think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is a little HP. Some possible alternates: [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Louella[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Lois[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Leda[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], or [name_u]Columba[/name_u]?

[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] - yes, the HP connection is obvious, and it also sounds hippie.
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] - definitely a fantasy character
[name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] - it sounds like HP. You have [name_m]Sirius[/name_m], Regulus, [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], [name_m]Remus[/name_m], Elphias, and even [name_m]Amos[/name_m]. Anything ending in an “ess” sound sounds HP.
[name_f]Annona[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] - I like this! It’s interesting.
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] - perfect! There shouldn’t be any “character” associations with [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], and on the whole it’s stunningly gorgeous!

The previous poster has mentioned [name_f]Louella[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Junia[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and [name_u]Columba[/name_u], which to me all sound like character names with you put them with [name_u]Raven[/name_u].

While I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f], I think with your last name it’s a little too [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], unfortunately because I really think [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is a lovely name.

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] sounds quite lovely and does not have a storybook feel to it [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Some other mythological girl names that work well with [name_u]Raven[/name_u] as a last name,

[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]

I teach middle school and many of my students have not seen the movies or read the books, so that is something to keep in mind when thinking of the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] connection. I think you’ll be just fine with a [name_f]Luna[/name_f]- using [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] would be a much stronger connection.

I know a [name_f]Luna[/name_f]! It is not always associated with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] I think it is really pretty. I think [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is fine, but Artimis for me is 100% associated with Greek Mythology. I also like [name_f]Annona[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. I would probably go with [name_f]Annona[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], or [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. I think they are pretty and go well with your last name.

I’m a big [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan as well, so the associations wouldn’t bother me. Also, when she gets older and eventually married, her last name will most likely change so for the majority of her life she will probably have a different last name anyway. I love [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and [name_u]Artemis[/name_u].

As mentioned above, [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is the only one I thing has an HP association, but it’s not what comes to my mind first and I love HP  When I hear [name_f]Luna[/name_f], I think more of a nature-earthy-goddess being/individual than [name_f]Luna[/name_f] of HP. I think it’s lovely, personally.

Thank you all so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it!
I still love [name_f]Luna[/name_f], it really is the name I keep going back to. I’m a vegan with pink hair and I’m pretty crunchy, so I don’t think anyone would be shocked by my name choice
My husband really likes [name_f]Annona[/name_f], but he started talking himself out of it saying ‘I known a raven’. LOL. I still think it could work, it’s certainly unusual and I have always loved the name [name_f]Winona[/name_f] and it’s a sound alike (there is a [name_f]Winona[/name_f] who lives in my neighbourhood so it’s not on my list).
As for her changing her name when she gets married, I secretly hope that my daughters decide to keep their names. [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is actually my maiden name, I didn’t change it when I got married and my husband was cool with the kids having my last name because his is a bit of a mouthful and is almost always mispronounced. I’ve never felt that it’s a given that children should take their father’s last name, but I do appreciate it’s a cultural norm.
Anyhow, back to first names! I did a quick search and found the name ‘Ostara’ listed as a goddess of spring or something similar, but I can’t find it on any name websites, is it not usable?
Any other name suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I love your names, including Ostara, but I do think they all sound story-bookish with your surname - in a good way!
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is the least HP-ish, but still lovely.

What about
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_u]Demeter[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u])

I am a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fanatic and I can tell you right now that I would think of HP if I heard [name_f]Luna[/name_f], but I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that your named your daughter after the HP character, since it’s a popular name anyway. None of the other names would make me think of HP, but Artimis [name_u]Raven[/name_u] does sound like a badass comic book character, but as your daughter, she may marry and change her last name, and Artimis [name_u]Raven[/name_u] is an awesome name. [name_f]Bridgit[/name_f], btw, is also completely “normal” sounding with no storybook sounding associations.

I actually really like [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u]!

It’s mysterious and definitely sounds mythological without sounding made up.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] go with [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_u]Raven[/name_u] - you love it, it fits your style, and I think it sounds great.
