Harry?

I really like this name. I also love [name]Henry[/name], but my husband’s cousin recently named their son [name]Henry[/name]. What do you think about [name]Harry[/name] as a stand-alone? Or formal [name]Henry[/name] with nickname [name]Harry[/name]?

I don’t care for it due to the homonym hairy. I’d like to give the little boy bearer an option, which [name]Henry[/name] provides. You could also use:

[name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Harris[/name]
Harriman
[name]Hayes[/name]
[name]Hart[/name]
[name]Hartley[/name]
[name]Harald[/name] (prefer original kingly [name]Harald[/name] to [name]Harold[/name])

I know some little [name]Harry[/name]'s and some little [name]Henry[/name]'s nn [name]Harry[/name]. I’d rather see [name]Harrison[/name] or [name]Harald[/name]!

I actually kind of like [name]Harry[/name]. It’s my godfathers name (full name) so it doesn’t feel odd to me. Yes it does sound like hairy but that as a tease name for a boy doesn’t bother me as much as it would for a girl. If you choose [name]Harry[/name] as a fn or nn I’d just pre-arm my kid with a few snappy come backs. Things like “well at least when I’m 18 I won’t have to pretend to shave” or something wittier than that.

Well [name]Harry[/name] is the number one boy’s name here in the UK so people here love it. I don’t quite get the appeal of the name but I also don’t see the connection between [name]Harry[/name] and Hairy, they sound sound very different and having met lots of [name]Harry[/name]'s none of them have been teased about their name.
