[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] is one of the most pompous names I’ve ever seen. Please choose [name_m]Harvey[/name_m].

That’s fair… if you place a lot of association on [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] the university. We do not live in the USA, and are maybe overlooking the association that others may have.

I do think [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] could be seen as a little pompous, but given that you don’t live in the US AND that children are rarely called by both their first and middle names most people won’t even know his name is [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m]. I prefer [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] to [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] in my personal taste and for the fact that it gives your son options for when he is older. He can choose to go by the nickname [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], but he also has a more formal option.

I live in Australia. [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me - the [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] brand is international (kind of like [name_m]Oxford[/name_m]). Given the middle name is [name_m]Rich[/name_m] either way, I’d urge you to go with [name_m]Harvey[/name_m].

thank you for good text

I’m in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] and my first reaction was also that [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] is veeeryyy stuffy.

I do like your reasons for wanting [name_m]Harvard[/name_m], but I do think its incompatible with [name_m]Rich[/name_m] as a middle.

What about another diminutive of [name_m]Richard[/name_m] for the middle?
[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rick[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rico[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Ritchie[/name_m]

I personally prefer [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] over [name_m]Harvey[/name_m].
[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] sounds more formal, and has several laid back nickname options. [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], it just doesn’t appeal to me, but that is just my opinion.
however I am not a fan of [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] and rich together. I think [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Richard[/name_m], despite sounding similar, sounds more like a name, where as [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] rich sounds like you are referring to a rich education at [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] university.

[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] is super pompous sounding and cringy. If [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] wanted to come to [name_u]America[/name_u], he’d have a hard time convincing people to take his name seriously. And in this age, it’s a bit unlikely that many people won’t know what [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] is! The name alone is a bit big, but paired with [name_m]Rich[/name_m], it becomes insufferable and it almost sounds like a caricature in a satirical cartoon! It’s hard not to crack a laugh when you hear the full name.
I would urge you to lean towards [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]!

(hopefully I haven’t been too harsh, but I’m just trying to paint a realistic picture of the reception the name would receive in [name_u]America[/name_u])

[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] is the most pretentious name someone could come up with. It’s like naming your son Biltmore Millions. It’s very character-esque.

I agree with the other posters, please go with [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]. The name [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] actually kind of horrifies me, to be honest. I wouldn’t be able to take him seriously at all, and would definitely cringe upon meeting him, even if he wasn’t from the U.S.

Another thing to consider here is that having the name [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] could potentially set him up for a lot of frustrations in life. He may feel more subconsciously pressured to excel in school because of his name, and may have more anxiety surrounding failure. Or, and I think this is equally likely, he may be inclined to rebel against academia because of the association with his name. I know this may sound silly, but names really influence people’s lives in millions of ways, and hearing people say “oh, like the university?” every time he introduces himself may be really frustrating over time. Also, it would encourage unfair comparisons from other people, such as: “I know a guy named [name_m]Harvard[/name_m], can you believe that? He’s not even an honor student!” (I’m not saying your child won’t excel in school, I’m just trying to get you to understand the weight of giving someone a name like this.) And the middle name [name_m]Rich[/name_m] would make all of this so much worse.

Wow, I am so surprised at the reaction to the name [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m]. There is no way we will use this name now, I’m so glad I did this forum page, I had no idea how strongly people felt about [name_m]Harvard[/name_m] and the middle name [name_m]Rich[/name_m]. We might be back to the drawing board… or possibly do [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_m]Richard[/name_m], which I only semi like. Choosing a name has been so hard for us! I have a hard time loving any name choice I have heard and then to get the hubby to agree…

[name_m]Harvard[/name_m] [name_m]Rich[/name_m] just sounds snooty to me, sorry.

[name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_m]Richard[/name_m] would sound the best [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

very nice
