Has anyone experienced this?

Okay, this might be a little TMI in some parts, but I have to ask somebody. Google is full of nonsense and grammatical errors. My period has been like clockwork since I went off BC 2 years ago, my cycle is generally 28 days (give or take a day or two) and my period was due to start the 6th of [name]April[/name]. This afternoon, I went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was some brown tinged blood/discharge, and I am still spotting now (mostly brown but occasionally some red) It seems to be getting slightly heavier, but definitely not like a period. Usually my period takes about 2-3 hours once started to really “get going” if you know what I mean… but this isn’t really doing anything. I barely need a pantyliner.

So, it’s 10 days before my period is supposed to start and now this. Spotting when I’m not on my period is definitely not normal for me. Is this my cycle this month and it’s just early, or is it implantation bleeding? And if my period is just early, is that a sign of anything? We all were sick with the stomach flu last week and I didn’t eat anything but saltine crackers and rice cakes for 4 days. Maybe being sick threw my body out of whack.

Has anyone experienced their period coming really early, or implantation bleeding?

I think it’s one of those things you won’t know the answer to until you see your doctor. You could be pregnant, but you might not be. Sorry this response is so unhelpful!

Doctors will be able to help you much better than I can, but in my experience, sickness tends to throw off my cycle, particularly when my eating habits change.

Also, your body could be settling after coming off the pill and pregnancy. It could be working out a new cycle now (since it’s no longer regulated by birth control/pregnancy hormones).

Maybe some of the doctor berries will have some thoughts…

I do think you should see your doctor to determine what’s going on. Irregular bleeding or discharge is…irregular and should definitely be checked out asap. Definitely don’t mean to alarm you but no matter what anyone says here or on any other message board, it’s no substitute for a doctor check. Let us know what s/he says!

Implantation bleeding is much-hyped but is extremely minimal. Most women don’t experience it at all (imagine a microscopic 32-cell ball implanting into the wall of your uterus-- how much blood do you think that would release?) and it’s almost never enough to necessitate feminine hygiene products.

Illness and stress usually suppress your endocrine axis via the release of cortisol, causing you to skip a period rather than get one in the middle of the stress.

You are still young and obviously premenopausal. Dysfunctional uterine bleeding is not worked up unless a) it’s heavy, persistent and causes impairment to your quality of life and/or anemia; b) it’s postmenopausal. As you presumably had a normal period three weeks ago and have only had 1-2 days worth of symptoms, I don’t think many physicians would be concerned. Watch and see what happens over the next few days to weeks.

Well, the bleeding literally only lasted for a few hours. It wasn’t even enough to warrant a pantyliner… it was there when I wiped a few times and then stopped. I was checking my calendar and doing some quick math this morning and it seems like it might have been implantation bleeding (of course I won’t know until I miss my period, I’m not wasting money on a test until then) My last period started on [name]March[/name] 6th and it lasted 3 days, so until [name]March[/name] 9th. We had an “oops” on [name]March[/name] 16th (we use the withdrawal method) after going out for my husband’s birthday. So, from what I’ve read, implantation bleeding usually happens 6-12 days after ovulation. If I was ovulating around the 16th, yesterday would have been 10-11 days after. I dunno, maybe I’m over thinking it. I don’t track my ovulation or anything, I just go by physical signs, so I might not of ovulated then. I was kicking myself all night for being so careless, but diligence seems to vanish when alcohol is involved. Oh well, I’ll just wait and see if my period comes. A doctor is easier said than done since I don’t currently have health insurance. We have a home business and it’s just not in the budget right now.

You’re probably right about implantation bleeding being hyped up. I’m sure it’s usually just something to look by women who are TTC because it’s a “concrete” sign and it gives some hope. But I do know it happens, a friend of mine who has 3 children said it was how she knew each time. I’m actually trying to talk myself out of thinking it, and telling myself it’s not likely. But the timing does seem right.

Rowan got sick the night of the 17th, and we got sick the night of the 18th. It was a pretty violent stomach bug, the vomiting/diarrhea only lasted for 8 hours or so but the general nausea and icky feeling lasted for another 3-4 days.

Hype or not, I don’t have mid-cycle bleeding except when I’m pregnant! And by “bleeding” I don’t mean any feminine products are necessary…basically I notice a little blood when I wipe a few times for a day or two. I can’t explain why it seems to happen to me and I never register it as a pregnancy symptom because we’re not usually “actively” ttc, but in hindsight it seems to add up as an early symptom. So you can take that with a grain of salt or more  I am not a hyper-tester – I always wait until at least 12 dpo (or my assumed o date if I wasn’t charting at the time) to test. The “implantation bleeding” has usually been 8-10 dpo on the cycles I was charting or when I looked back after the fact.

It doesn’t happen to me either, that’s why I posted. [name]Even[/name] when I was on BC and my cycles were irregular, I either had a full blown period or nothing. No spotting. I guess I’ll find out in a week or so.

I suddenly started doing that last year, shorter cycles that usually started a few days before with brown spotting. The doctor thinks I might have had low progesterone. I am 42 well, so it was probably the perimenopause setting in. He gave me progesterone for my last cycle after an ultrasound showed that my lining was very thin. I got pregnant that cycle after taking the progesterone.

I would definitely go talk to your GP. It could be a blip this cycle, or it could be your hormones are a little off because you’ve been ill.

Good luck.

I just got pregnant in February. I had implantation bleeding, actually quite late, close to the time for my period. But other than the difference in timing, it was just like what you described.

Of course there’s no way to know, but it definitely could be implantation bleeding! Fingers crossed.

I didn’t have implantation bleeding when I got pregnant with [name]Rowan[/name]. We will see if my period comes. I’ve been having strange symptoms the past few days that definitely don’t seem like PMS symptoms. Extreme thirst, heartburn, my sense of smell is elevated… but I could be psyching myself out. I definitely did not imagine the bleeding though!

It would definitely be sooner than we expected. I didn’t want to start TTC until this summer at the earliest, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world either.
