Has anyone heard of Nesha?

hiya!

apparently this name was a top choice for my parents if i was born a boy, but i can’t find much about it! it seems to be a feminine Russian Agnes variant, but my guess is that on a boy it would follow the pattern of Russian diminutives being used as full names in Croatia, like Sasha and Misha. I’m not sure of the origin or the non-phonetic spelling. has anyone heard of this name on a boy/does anyone know the etymology?

edit: solved my own problem - i am almost certain it is a diminutive of the slavic name Nebojša, “fearless!”

I’ve never heard of it either, but I can definitely see what you mean about it’s potential similarity to [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] and [name_u]Misha[/name_u]!

Sorry, considering linguistic rules that’s impossible

I think it looks cute! Reminds me of Naoise. I don’t know its origin but I’m pretty certain it’s not Turkish either way

whoops, you’re right! meant to say russian

It definitely sounds more feminine to me, and seeing as [name_f]Agnessa[/name_f] is pronounced with a nyesh sound in the middle, it seems plausible as its nickname. I am from Croatia and have never heard of it here, though.

I’m just seeing your edit, and was actually going to suggest Nebojša to you, it’s a lovely name. A name you might also like is Borna, it’s a masculine Croatian name, coming from the verb “to fight” (boriti). It’s a name with so much history and has actually existed since at least the 9th century.

Nesha is used in Russian as a nickname for Nestor and other names starting with nes- or neh- (or that just have -nes- in them).
