Has having a name for a pet ever ruined the name for you?

My parents loved the name [name]Abigail[/name] for a second daughter after they had me. It was their top girl name if either of my brothers had been girls. Then, after my youngest bro was born our naighbors got a dog named [name]Abby[/name]/[name]Abigail[/name] so my mom desided she couldn’t name her daughter “after” the naighbors dog. Thus when they finally had their second daughter, my little sister, they named her [name]Isabella[/name] instead. My best friend then got a goat named [name]Isabella[/name] several years later and my mom was horrified! Our family has always had a pretty strict “no human names on animals policy.”
Also my grama had a dog named [name]Sebastian[/name] so I can’t imagine the name [name]Sebastian[/name] on a human now. The funny thing is she also had a dog named [name]Mollie[/name] and I don’t imeadiatly think of the dog when I hear [name]Mollie[/name], same with [name]Abby[/name]. I guess the more uncommen the name used on a dog the harder it is for me to imagine it on a human. Personally if I loved the name enough I wouldn’t let knowing an animal with that name keep me from useing it.

[name]Charlotte[/name] was ruined due to my sister naming a cat.
I loved that name :frowning:

Sort of. My dog’s name is [name]Shelby[/name] and I’ve met a few people named [name]Shelby[/name] and it seemed a little weird at first, but I got over it. I hope things like that aren’t too deal-breaking…I love the name [name]Ivy[/name] and that’s my boyfriend’s brother’s dog’s name…hah.

Sorta? I was deeply attached to my cat [name]Patrick[/name] but my boyfriend likes the name for a child and I like it as a middle. Also I currently have a cat named [name]Tommy[/name] and it’s one of the main reasons I don’t like it as a nn for [name]Thomas[/name]

[name]Thisbe[/name] was my dogs name, she died last year around this time as we had to put her down. [name]Thisbe[/name] has been an all time favorite of mine for a long time, but I know that realistically I’ll probably never be able to use it because of the connotation.

My cat’s name is [name]Jack[/name]. I used it because I love the name [name]Jack[/name], but it’s so common right now I would never use it for a son. So I still get to use a name I love but couldn’t ever use on a child. We’re actually getting another kitten in the next few weeks and I’m searching for names that I love but probably can’t use any other way… [name]Jasper[/name] maybe? [name]Maximus[/name]?

When I was little had a dog named [name]James[/name]. I still love the name but I’m not sure if I could use it for a kid.
