I know [name]Mackenzie[/name] really started out as a boy name only, then somewhat recently became an extremely popular girls name. I know it is considered pretty “trendy” on nameberry, as are all mac- names ([name]Mackenzie[/name], [name]Mackenna[/name], Mackinley, etc.). Anyway… has [name]Mackenzie[/name] gone back to the boys?
I wish. The Mc/[name]Mac[/name] prefix literally means “son of,” and since a girl is not the son of anybody these names are masculine by definition. Unfortunately the McNames are rabidly popular for girls and have been for a little too long.
I wish it would too, but there are so many little girls out there with the name [name]Mackenzie[/name], I’m not sure it will ever go back to the boys. Would be nice!
I wish. It is my second favorite boy name, but it has gone to the girls.
I really don’t think so. I know a lot of girls with [name]Mac[/name]/Mc names, but have never met a boy [name]McKenzie[/name].
Mackenzie is a great boy name. It’s only ‘gone to the girls’ because people are too terrified to use it. If you like it, use it. So what if some girls have it? I’ve never met a Mackenzie. So people may mistake him for a girl, is that going to kill him? And teasing is a weak excuse. I know a John who was teased mercilessly about his name and an Ashley who was never teased, so a ‘girly’ name is not going to ruin a boy’s life.
ETA: Are you hoping it hasn’t ‘gone to the boys’? It’s definitely trendy and losing steam for the girls but it’s not back to the boys…yet.
