Has Olivia's popularity ruined Liv?

I love the name [name_f]Liv[/name_f] (I have Scandinavian roots) and the fact that it’s not super popular (927th in 2013). But–with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] being one of the top (if not the top) names in the U.S.- does that sort of ruin [name_f]Liv[/name_f]'s rarity? Would [name_f]Liv[/name_f] stand out, or would she be swallowed up by a sea of little Olivias who go by [name_f]Liv[/name_f] and [name_f]Livvie[/name_f]?

Are you pronouncing [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as “live” or “leave”? The Scandinavian form uses “leave”.

I love [name_f]Liv[/name_f] (pronounced “live” because it’s easier) but yeah, I do think a girl with the name wouldn’t really stand out from the [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Liv[/name_f]'s, and [name_f]Livvie[/name_f]'s.

[name_f]Liv[/name_f] pronounced “live” like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] not like “leave” or like “live” as in “Live from [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m]…”

pronounced as if you were to say I live… in a house or on this road… I like it… I prefer it to [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]… x

No way! I think [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a standalone is super fresh. Its strength/beauty is in its simplicity. A lot of ppl might assume it’s a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], but when they learn it’s a distinct name with its own meaning and history, they may have a new appreciation for it. Sorry to gush… I love this name

Me too emsky! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear! I am just worried though with the prevalence of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]… like, if someone’s child is named [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], do you think they would go by “[name_f]Liv[/name_f]” as a nickname? Like are there lots of little Livs running around who on the birth certificate are [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]? Or do babies being named [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] these days go by [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]?

Not at all. [name_f]Liv[/name_f] has a very different feel.

I would automatically assume it was short for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] because I know several [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]'s that go by “[name_f]Liv[/name_f]”. I think if I found out it was a standalone name, not a nickname, I’d be like, “Ok, but she still blends in.” I wouldn’t be like, “WOW so creative!”.

ok, I love [name_f]Liv[/name_f] too, and I am really worried about [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] too, every [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] I know goes by [name_f]Liv[/name_f]. So no it probably won’t stand out.
