Haunting, Ancient, Medieval-ish names?

Can any of you think of any names that are kind of old and haunting and fairy-tale medieval-ish? Not anything common either. Something that you can imagine written in old fancy font. thanks in advance!

If you go to this link and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you will see a whole little cluster of links to medieval names organized alphabetically and by years: [u]Feminine Given Names in [name]DES[/name]: Introduction[/u]. My favorite, for your purposes, is [name]Thora[/name]. Other medieval names I’ve found at that link and others:

Good luck on your story!

Those are the type of names I love to find, but unfortunately haven’t found many of. Personally, I think any of the -ique names could work, as well as the names Aleydis (ah-lay-diss) and [name]Carina[/name] (though mainly because it has a mysterious, haunting air about it to me).

I’d check out lists of [name]Breton[/name] and Occitan names–I often find they have those qualities. I came across Ismeria and Achelias the other day, and I really like those. And while it’s hardly haunting, [name]Jennet[/name] is a pretty one that’s fairly ancient.

I love Medieval names! They’re the kind I collect to use in my books because I can’t use them on a baby. You didn’t specify boy or girl so you’re getting both :stuck_out_tongue:

Girl:

Jocosa
[name]Melisende[/name]
Militsa
[name]Rada[/name]
Rohesia
Sunnifa/[name]Sunniva[/name]

Boys:

Leofric
[name]Miran[/name]
[name]Nikola[/name]
Terrowin
Tibault/[name]Tybalt[/name]
[name]Vasilii[/name]/[name]Vasily[/name]
[name]Vladimir[/name]
Wilkin

[name]Orabella[/name], [name]Sabine[/name]/[name]Sabina[/name], [name]Adelina[/name], [name]Adeliza[/name],Galiene,[name]Gratia[/name], [name]Grazia[/name],Miriella,Sabeline,

Right now I’m obsessed with the boy’s name [name]Tamerlane[/name].

[name]Even[/name] though it’s dreadfully unoriginal, [name]Caspian[/name]. And a few others:

[name]Alaric[/name]
Aldair
[name]Drury[/name]
[name]Ives[/name]
