I’m crushing on the name Havazelet, meaning “sand lily”. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it and what is your opinion on it?
I’d instinctively pronounce it Hah-vah-ZEH-let (sorry, terrible at writing out pronunciations) and personally I think out-there names are often really cool as long as it’s culturally appropriate to use them.
I would pronounce it phonetically, “hav-uh-ZEH-lit.” It has some interesting sounds in it and a super cool meaning. I think I would be wary of using it if the pronunciation is not phonetic to the language it would be spoken in (aka if you’re an English speaker and this name is not pronounced phonetically in English, that could be very confusing).
It could grow on me, but when I first saw it I couldn’t help think it was an offer of some food “Have a…”? I’d wonder if the ending is a let/lit sound or a lay sound?
I read it as hav-uh-zel-et.
I cant say I’m a huge fan. Like a pp stated, it reminds me of “have a …?” And doesn’t have the most prettiest flow to it.
I pronounce it like everyone else hah-vuh-zel-let. The name, in my opnion, is okay. It sounds kind of pretty and magical, but at the same time, kind of awkward and choppy to say.
My main issue with this name is that the last half sounds like “zealot,” which has bad connotations. The whole name sounds like “have a zealot” to me (although I’d actually pronounce it more like “hahv a zealot”). I want to like it but the zealot thing stops me.
I’d pronounce it hah-VAZ-uh-let.
I like how it looks in some ways, but in other ways it just looks like a mash-up of other names ([name_f]Hazel[/name_f] + [name_f]Violet[/name_f] maybe) which turns me off it. Got that “[name_f]Renesmee[/name_f]” factor
If one has to think to hard about how to pronounce a name, probably not a good name to use. Personally, I think it looks and sounds unattractive.
I concur with this.
I think Havazelet is a striking name that has a lovely meaning (I appreciate the connection to Song of Songs, which is my favourite book of the Bible) and sounds beautiful with the authentic Hebrew pronunciation, but unfortunately is difficult for English speakers to pronounce.
I’m not a fan. I mean, really not a fan.
The meaning is lovely. But like others I hear “zealot,” which isn’t appealing. I’d pronounce it Haa-VAA-zel-et.
I read it as huh-VAH-zeh-let. I’m not crazy about it, but it could work with the right MN/FN combo.
