Have I Gotten Carried Away?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ve realized recently I’m in a name conundrum [name_f][/name_f]- I’ve fallen for all these brave and beautiful names for boys but lately I’m having trouble envisioning if I were expecting a baby today, would I want to use them? [name_f][/name_f] They almost seem too brave for me, which is breaking my heart. [name_f][/name_f] But with the exception of a few of these (the ones with asterisks)… [name_f][/name_f] I’m not sure I’m brave enough for the rest if it came to an actual baby. [name_f][/name_f] This is all hypothetical at this point anyway, but I could use a second opinion. [name_f][/name_f] Are these too brave for a baby born in 2025?

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aquila[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Rowan*
[name_f][/name_f]Avery*
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lorcan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eoghan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Asa[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bailey[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Jack*
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Finley[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cullen[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Vale[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eliel[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Samuel*
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Darby[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Baxter[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

I’ve been thinking about some former loves that don’t feel quite as bold like [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Desmond[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Everett[/name_m], and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], maybe [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], but my heart really doesn’t want to let any of these go.

[name_f][/name_f]

Thanks, berries

Here’s everything I personally wouldn’t be surprised to see on a baby this year, hope it helps

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rowan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Avery[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Asa[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bailey[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Finley[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cullen[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Darby[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Baxter[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

Which is most of them! And even the ones I didn’t list, I’d probably go, “Wow, what a neat unusual name!”, not “ewww what the heck name is this”

These are all useable. I honestly wouldn’t bat any eye at any of these except for [name_m]Eliel[/name_m] because I’m not personally familiar with it. These are very far from the most unusual boy names bouncing around on this website!

The ones I wouldn’t be shocked to hear on a birth annoucement: [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], [name_f]Avery[/name_f], [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] (feel like this is quite normal if a nickname is used), [name_m]Asa[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Jack[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_m]Amias[/name_m], [name_m]Finley[/name_m], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Drake[/name_m], and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

The ones I’d be a little shocked by, but very pleased/think would be easy to get used to: [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m], [name_m]Bailey[/name_m], [name_m]Cullen[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_m]Soren[/name_m], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_f]Darby[/name_f], and [name_m]Baxter[/name_m].

Okay, so, I’ve met kids/babies/teens called:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] (multiple)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] (multiple :person_shrugging:[name_f][/name_f] )
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Augustine[/name_m] (bold but with popularity of [name_m]August[/name_m], I think it’s fine)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eoghan[/name_m] (though I do wonder how it might be received if people weren’t familiar with [name_m]Irish[/name_m] names?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Asa[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuben[/name_m] (multiple)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bailey[/name_m] (more girls than boys, but still 2 boys)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rowan[/name_m] (girls and boys, about equally)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jack[/name_m] (many)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (multiple)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (multiple)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Soren[/name_m] (a girl, but no one struggled with it)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Finley[/name_m] (multiple)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] from experience, they all feel usable, some are even popular where I am!!

[name_f][/name_f]

Others I think are totally usable:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Avery[/name_f] (familiar and classy)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judah[/name_m] (Jude and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m] are popular where I am, so this feels like it fits in fine!)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] (cool, gentle and familiar)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] (bold, but familiar)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] (Barnaby has seen more use recently where I am, so it works to me)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Drake[/name_m] (while it’s not a fave, it feels perfectly grounded, familiar and usable)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bram[/name_m] (familiar and cool but cosy too [name_f][/name_f]- literary connections make it feel more known?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eliel[/name_m] (enough like [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Elias[/name_m], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and co as well as [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] that it fits)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] (people might pronounce it with 3 syllables if they haven’t heard it, but I’ve seen it as a surname so it feels more familiar than it actually is maybe?)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Darby[/name_f] (with [name_f]Darcy[/name_f], [name_m]Toby[/name_m] and [name_m]Alby[/name_m] popular where I am, [name_f]Darby[/name_f] feels perfectly grounded)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Baxter[/name_m] (it’s got clunky-vintage vibes, a bit of [name_m]Max[/name_m] and [name_m]Dexter[/name_m] to it too)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Amias[/name_m] (charming, adventurous and pleasant [name_f][/name_f]- I think it could work)

[name_f][/name_f]

The ones that do feel brave to me:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Cullen[/name_m] (maybe it’s the Cull sound or the [name_m]Twilight[/name_m] link, for me. I do think it’s usable, if you don’t mind people (adults more so than kids) mentioned [name_m]Twilight[/name_m] :person_shrugging:[name_f][/name_f] )

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Aquila[/name_f] (it’s a charming name and nn [name_m]Quill[/name_m] makes it feel more approachable, but it does feel braver)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] (for me, it’s the length and my struggle with nicknames obvious nicknames that arent Bart)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Vale[/name_f] (maybe I just find the sounds a bit awkward and incomplete? Maybe it feels just too unfamiliar? Not sure?_

Take or leave my thoughts (and have starred the ones that don’t seem like a big swing to me):
Caspar* - very cool & contemporary (Caspar, Casper, Jasper, Jesper)
Aquila - too eagle like for me, would keep as GP
Boaz - been popping up a bit lately on here, but chest-pumpy for me but def usable
Rowan* - seems to be used more for girls these days but more than usable
Avery* - as above
Lorcan - don’t know any but feel like I should
Bartholomew - maybe too much? Not sure we’re ready for Bart yet either.
Judah* - I prefer Jude but this wouldn’t surprise me
Augustine - have three in my family with this as a middle name (two have ending sounding like Justin, one like Justine, all boys)
Eoghan - agree with above, spelling and whether worthwhile depends on where you live
Asa - very contemporary and hip
Reuben* - know a few including one under age 10
Bailey* - know a boy and two dogs (lol) with this name
Jack* - classic!
Sebastian* - know several including two in my family - it’s my fave boys’ name
Cyrus* - definitely usable (similar to Silas etc)
Amias - not as common but definitely usable
Finley* - usable (if anything a tad dated)
Ambrose* - know two under 10
Cullen - prob still too soon, but maybe OK! Not familiar though - ie will get “Colin?”
Barnabas - Barney names are too comical for me
Drake- no, not with the singer/rapper, too soon
Vale - middle name only, I think
Bram - usable just not a fave for me
Eliel - haven’t heard of it - might be a bit of a tricky one to wear
Samuel* - classic
Soren - usable though may need some training on pronunciation (and the one I know is a girl)
Dashiell* - usable - quite thespian
Darby - I like, but see it as for a girl
Baxter* - fun, a name like Felix, a little posh, def usable

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m] → surprising, but definitely usable!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aquila[/name_f] → I would say this one is very[name_f][/name_f] brave, but on the cusp of usable.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Boaz[/name_m] → [name_m]Bo[/name_m] makes this one work!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rowan[/name_m] → totally fine
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Avery[/name_f] → totally fine
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] → brave, but feels very on trend with the sounds!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] → it’s middle-name-only territory for me due to it’s length and weighty-ness
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judah[/name_m] → perfectly usable…I know a few!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Augustine[/name_m] → see [name_m]Judah[/name_m]. I know more than average for sure, but it’s very approachable with nicknames
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eoghan[/name_m] → might be a little tough in the US due to pronunciation
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Asa[/name_m] → usable, though I think quite a few people will be unfamiliar
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuben[/name_m] → usable, but may get reference to the sandwich?
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bailey[/name_m] → I know mostly girls with this name, but I’ve seen a boy or two as well. Definitely works!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jack[/name_m] → totally fine
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] → absolutely fine! it’s in in the US top 20!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] → maybe occasional references to [name_f]Miley[/name_f] / [name_m]Billy[/name_m] [name_m]Ray[/name_m], but [name_m]Cy[/name_m] makes it cool!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Amias[/name_m] → I’d expect pronunciation issues, but usable.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Finley[/name_m] → usable!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] → I know of a few…it’s definitely weight-y, but it fits them well!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cullen[/name_m] → I grew up with 2 (name pre-Twilight) and they were fine!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] → [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] territory for me. I find [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] a bit more approachable.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Drake[/name_m] → I know a few. They don’t really get references to the rapper, but they were all named before he was known.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Vale[/name_f] → it works, though I think many might expect a girl
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bram[/name_m] → totally works, though I can see pronunciation issues as a possibility
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eliel[/name_m] → [name_m]Eli[/name_m]- names are so in right now that I think it works. Maybe some pronunciation issues.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Samuel[/name_m] → totally fine
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Soren[/name_m] → I feel like this one is approaching mainstream in some circles? Would be unexpected around me, but in an exciting way!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] → I know of one! It definitely gets mispronounced upon first meeting, but people adjust pretty quickly.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Darby[/name_f] → see [name_f]Vale[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Baxter[/name_m] → a family name for me! It’s worked on all the men I’ve known with it!

as an educator, ive encountered little ones named [name_m]Asa[/name_m] and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], and ive encountered [name_m]Bailey[/name_m], [name_f]Darby[/name_f], [name_f]Avery[/name_f], and [name_m]Finley[/name_m] on girls (I think that if you’re comfortable with [name_f]Avery[/name_f] on a boy, then [name_m]Bailey[/name_m], [name_f]Darby[/name_f], and [name_m]Finley[/name_m] should be no stretch)

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Augustine[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_m]Amias[/name_m], [name_m]Cullen[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_f]Vale[/name_f], [name_m]Eliel[/name_m], [name_m]Soren[/name_m], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], and [name_m]Baxter[/name_m] feel perfectly natural to me, and I wouldn’t bat an eye at any of them. [name_m]Drake[/name_m] could fit in here, although I personally find it dated, so it would take me a little by surprise

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Owen[/name_m] is one of the most common boy names I see, but I don’t know how familiar people would be with [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m], and if that might make things more difficult

[name_f][/name_f]

admittedly, I wouldn’t be expecting [name_f]Aquila[/name_f], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], or [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]. I would get used to [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] quickly, I think. [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] would take some mental training to separate it from [name_m]Barney[/name_m] the purple dinosaur, but that’s not gonna be an issue for kids. ive never come across [name_f]Aquila[/name_f] as a name so I can’t picture it

[name_f][/name_f]

the only name on here that I think might genuinely be “too much” is [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]. but I would love to hear my 3-year-olds try to say it! :joy:

Hey, [name_m]Ash[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

As you know, I’ve recently been going through the same thing with my lists. It’s so difficult to decipher what names are actually “usable” when they all mean so much to us.

[name_f][/name_f]

However! I truly believe that almost all of your names are perfectly usable for a little boy born in 2025.

[name_f][/name_f]

There are a few that I’d categorize as “brave but usable” –

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Eliel[/name_m], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], and [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m].

[name_f][/name_f]

Then there are several that I personally wouldn’t use myself –

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Aquila[/name_f], [name_m]Eoghan[/name_m] (specifically for someone in the United States), and [name_f]Vale[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

Most of the others, like [name_m]Soren[/name_m], [name_m]Amias[/name_m], etc., feel unusual-but-familiar in a way that is still completely usable. And then of course names like [name_m]Bailey[/name_m] and [name_m]Finley[/name_m] are completely usable!

Caspar-bold, but definitely usable, especially with the similarity to [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]Aquila-feels a little feminine on a boy, I would assume it was a foreign name if I heard it
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Boaz[/name_m]- very bold choice, but I think the nickname [name_m]Bo[/name_m] makes it fine!
[name_f][/name_f]Lorcan-I know a boy named [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m], so I think [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] would be completely fine!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]- long and rarely used, but it’s a very traditional name (many last names come from it!) and has many nickname options (Bart/Barty, Bartsy, Barthy, [name_m]Ollie[/name_m], [name_m]Tolly[/name_m], Bartolo, [name_m]Barto[/name_m], [name_m]Bartley[/name_m], Bartino)
[name_f][/name_f]Judah-feels a little feminine to me (I wouldn’t be surprised to hear it more and more on girls) but I [name_f][/name_f] know several boy Judahs!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Augustine[/name_m]- I know of many Augustines so this name feels 100% fine!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eoghan[/name_m]- probably too bold to use in real life
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Asa[/name_m]- Again it feels pretty feminine, but I don’t see anything wrong with it!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuben[/name_m]- 100% usable (especially with the nn Ben)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bailey[/name_m]- I wouldn’t use [name_m]Bailey[/name_m] on a boy as I like firmly masculine names but I don’t think it’s too bold necessarily, just not masculine.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]- Absolutely fine! I know many Sebastians!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]- more unique, but I think it could definitely work!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Amias[/name_m]- ditto with [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Finley[/name_m]- ditto with [name_m]Bailey[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]- I know a few boys named [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], so this name doesn’t seem strange to me at all! However, I’ve heard of boys with this name being mistaken for [name_f]Amber[/name_f] Rose…
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cullen[/name_m]- definitely usable, what with the usage of Callan/Callum
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]- same with [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Drake[/name_m]- sounds right on trend!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Vale[/name_f]- ditto with [name_m]Drake[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bram[/name_m]- I like [name_m]Bram[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], so that could be a possibility!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Eliel[/name_m]- a little hard to pronounce, but if you’re firm about that, I think it could work!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Soren[/name_m]- ditto with Drake/Vale
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]- The nickname [name_m]Dash[/name_m] gives this one more usability and spunk!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Darby[/name_f]- sounds more like the name of a dog to me!
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Baxter[/name_m]- definitely usable! (although it also sounds a little like a dog name)

They are all totally usable!

[name_f][/name_f]

If it helps, I personally know babies named [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Finley[/name_m], and [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites from your list are [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], [name_f]Avery[/name_f], [name_m]Augustine[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_m]Soren[/name_m], and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]! :heartpulse:

I have met some people with the following names, so think these are totally fine:
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rowan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lorcan[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judah[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuben[/name_m] *
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bailey[/name_m] *
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jack[/name_m] *
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Finley[/name_m] *
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Samuel[/name_m] *

[name_f][/name_f]

The names I’ve * are names I’ve heard quite a lot, and are quite common near me (UK).

[name_f][/name_f]

Others that are useable from your list:
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Asa[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barnabas[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Soren[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Darby[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]

[name_f][/name_f]

Thoughts on the rest of your list:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aquila[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I think this is useable, but feels a little more feminine to me? Think I prefer just [name_m]Quill[/name_m]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Boaz[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I would say useable but a bold choice.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Avery[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- This is useable, but seems to be used on girls more so at the minute.
[name_f][/name_f]Bartholemew [name_f][/name_f]- I really like this name but it is a big name to wear and pull off. I think you’d have to be quite a confident person to pull off being called Bartholemew.
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- See above.
