Have you considered a comment section under each name?

I know berries can always go to the forums and ask for comments but it would be fun to be able to write comments under names we like/dislike. Similar to behindthename.com

I second this!

Thank you.

I’ve always thought this would be a great feature.

I agree - this way we would get feedback straightaway to our favorite names.

[name]Love[/name] this idea. I think it’s a great one. Very useful and it would help minimize the repeated topics of “Wdyt of…”

Great idea!

Agree with this idea

This would be great, and I bet a more comfortable way for people to get feedback.
I know I’ve stopped posting about names for privacy reasons, and interactive conversations about names can get more heated than passive commenting (though I’m sure people would find a way, ha). Being able to view comments instantly would save a lot of time.

I think it would be great if the comments worked something like reddit or youtube, where people could “like” or “thumbs-up” comments that they find useful. The most “liked” comments would show up first, followed by the rest in reverse-chronological order. Maybe?

In my dream world, people could also (perhaps separately) comment specifically on pronunciation, and perhaps cite their source a la Yahoo Answers. Like:

Saoirse
pn. SEER-shuh
source: I am Irish

Saoirse
pn. sow-EER-see
source: this is my name

Hopefully that doesn’t make anyone cringe too badly
Because so many people ask “how would you pronounce _______? [and why?]”
I think that would be a great quick-reference. I know I would’ve saved myself some grief on Ianthe, which I found and loved as pronounced eye-ANN-thee many places, but no one good source… until a NBer very familiar with Greek names posted “it’s ee-ANN-thee and here’s why…”

Usually websites with comments under names annoy me a little because usually the comments will be sth like

  1. “that’s my name” “mine too!” “this is my boyfriends name”
  2. “We named our child … it’s the best name!”
  3. “ugh, what an ugly name, how can you call your child that?”
  4. "I don’t like it, I named my child …(some other name)

I’d rather hear opinions in the forum.

Yep, I agree totally! You shouldn’t have to start a thread just to see if people like a name!

I really like the idea of being able to rate the comments up or down according to content. That we could weed out the occasional inane comment in favor of the more helpful and informative ones.

You don’t have to create a new post, you can just search the forums and see what other people have already said about the name in other threads.
