I think she’s talking about the fact that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] can be pronounced the same (eye-la). She assumed her cousin’s name was spelled [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] because that’s the more common spelling where she lives.
I loved [name_f]Flavia[/name_f] and [name_m]Flavian[/name_m] when I thought they were FLAYvia like flavor. But FLAHvia seems more… like the word blah…
I heard of someone named [name_f]Elektra[/name_f] and it was pronounced [name_f]El[/name_f]-ek-truh
Well the first is the Greek pronunciation of Calliope so I think it’s usable to use (more like cah-lee-oh-pee).
Elektra is pronounced ee-LEH-ktrah.
Andromeda ahn-draw-meh-duh.
Also I wish Nimue was pronounced that way @EagleEyes. I really love it!
I just found out I’ve been saying [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] wrong, all these threads I’ve commented on rooting for [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] without knowing it was pronounced different to how I say it (ceh-LES-teh)
When I heard it, it was pronounced [name_f]El[/name_f]-ek- truh, that’s all.
Im so upset after hearing the pronunciation of ‘[name_u]Halle[/name_u]’!
I always thought it was just pronounced like ‘[name_m]Hal[/name_m]’, but apparently its like ‘[name_m]Hal[/name_m]-lee’
Phoebe. I thought that it was phoo-be, not fee-bee. I like the correct pronunciation alright, but I still slightly prefer my mispronunciation.
Calliope and aurelie! I loved calliope pronounced call-ee-ope, but then learned it was kuh-lye1uh-pee.
If I spell [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] like Auralie, then can I pronounce it ah-rah-lee? Please?
lucien - i thought it was LOO-see-in, but it’s LOO-shen
cassian - i thought it was CASS-see-in, but found out it’s CASH-in
elowen - i pronounce it EL-low-en, but apparently it’s el-OWEN, but if i have a girl named elowen, i’ll probably still pronounce it EL-low-en, it’s too beautiful not to
linnea - i love lynn-NAY-uh, but it’s LINNIE-uh
Like many of the examples in this thread, CASS-ee-in and lynn-AY-uh are not wrong! [name_m]Just[/name_m] a question of different languages and accents. I prefer [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] with the stress on the e too!
i used to pronounce oriel “o-ree-elle” and i’m pretty sure the correct way is “o-reel”. i just don’t love it as much now! i know there is a name that pronounces it my way, orielle, but i prefer the oriel spelling.
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], or practically any other [name_f]Ros[/name_f]- name. I was pronouncing it like ‘rose-ah-lind’. Turns out it’s pronounced ‘raw-zah-lind’ and… Yeah, I’m not a fan but it’s growing on me a little
lucien can also be pronounced the way you like!!
[name_m]Rocco[/name_m] is a name I’ve mispronounced “ROE-ko” while [name_m]Ignacio[/name_m] was mispronounced as “Ig-NAYSH-io”. I actually felt sad when I realised I pronounced them wrong since I liked them. I’ve since pronounced these correctly and love them, even if it felt like relearning them again!
Also as a kid, I used to pronounce [name_m]Cerulean[/name_m] as “SEER-u-LEEN” but ironically I’m so much happier knowing the real pronunciation and loved it after knowing.
