Yes! Her name was (is) [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. She went to school with my when I was small, and out librarian thought we were sisters for years.

Oh, a whole ton…to be fair, my last name is super common haha…there was a girl at my camp with my last name, someone in my 5th grade class with my last name (we used to joke that we were secretly sisters separated at birth or something) and my algebra teacher last year also had my last name (same middle name as well, coincidentally, though she spelled hers differently lol)

Never. I’ve seen it on someone famous but never met anyone with the name. [name_f]My[/name_f] last name is a rare Spanish word surname, rare to the point that if I were to meet someone with it I would wonder if they’re related in some way to me

[name_f]My[/name_f] last name is the most common one in my city, so yes. It is also the 13th most common one in another country and the 25th or something in another one! :grimacing::notes:

At my school there is another person (who happens to be my friend) who shares my last name. We actually met because of that and it was fun.

I think I met at least 4 or something people who is not my relative or family and shares it.

I even met a kid in a swimming pool with the same NAME and LAST name of mine! (I still went by my birth name, at the time)

And these are just the people with the same spelling-

Because my last name could also be spelt in various other ways. If meant as that, then I had a teacher with that variant spelling + there was a main character in a somehow popular Netflix show that I loved, with the same spelling :sweat_smile: I liked that character a lot and related to her in some ways

Not met, but I have had ppl ask several times “have you met __ or are you related to ___?” because of my surname. I’ve even been through a town called my surname, and it’s not that elusive either. I’ve just never met someone with it personally yet.

That happened a lot when I was a child because the other family with our surname in town ran a business under the name. The one time I actually met someone with it was unrelated to that though.

Nope! I have a hyphenated surname and neither name is particularly common – I haven’t even met someone with one of my last names :slight_smile:

No, never. There are two spelling variations that aren’t common but have slightly more usage than mine so I have seen those not in person but in random situations like the illustrator of a book I’m reading or in the news.
