I really like [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], it’s not that usual of a name and I think that it will age pretty well too. I like the name [name_u]Chase[/name_u], but it just doesn’t seem to flow right with [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] for some reason.
[name_m]Caden[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_u]Carson[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
I love all of these! My son is [name_u]Camden[/name_u] so I’m partial to that
I really like [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] and have been meeting more of those recently. I think it’s really handsome! [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] sounds great. [name_u]Chase[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] is kind of hard to say and [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] is okay but not my style.
I must live in the part of the country where everyone doesn’t care if you name your child [name_m]Cohen[/name_m], because I know 5 between the ages of 3 and 16. cause everyone on here keeps telling me it’s Jewish name, but everyone I say [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] to say they love it and it doesn’t come up in their minds as Jewish. Oh well.
Of your options, I like [name_u]Camden[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] the best.
Some other ideas:
AJ [name_m]Anderson[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] [name_m]Archer[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] [name_m]Austin[/name_m] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m] [name_u]Alden[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_u]Ashton[/name_u] [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
In my opinion, it is ok to use names from different cultures, but only if you do your research. If you want to use a name you should look at where it comes from and its meaning and significance in that culture. It’s also a good idea to talk to someone who is part of that culture about the name and significance. Choosing a name just because it sounds good and not looking into the cultural significance or respecting the cultural of the name is cultural appropriation. It is ok to admire and use things from other cultures as long as doing so is respectful to the respective culture.
Personally, I think it is important that we, as human beings, respect the cultures of our fellow human beings. If you don’t understand something about another culture, ask questions and learn about it, don’t just write the person off as getting “way too offended”.
I am not Jewish, but my understanding is that in the Jewish culture & religion, “Cohen” is a title given to those high priests with a lot of religious and cultural significance. It is not a first name.
It is hard to draw a perfect parallel, but I came up with a few examples that may be similar situations:
Naming your kid “Dalai Lama”
Naming your kid “Buddha”
A non-Christian person naming their kid “Jesus” while saying they don’t believe in Jesus, but just like the way the name sounds
If you don’t care about misusing the culture of others, then by all means go ahead and name your kid whatever you want, legally you can. But don’t criticize people for getting offended or for trying to point out that there may be a reason not to use it from a cultural standpoint. You did ask for opinions on these names. People are giving their opinions and a reason why.
For 1 I did NOT say people can’t put their opinions, if you have one cool, if not then that’s fine.
For 2 if people only say it’s Jewish that’s not a reason, every name has a cultural background, like my name is from [name_f]Russia[/name_f] but my parents are Christians. Religion shouldn’t matter in my mind, because everyone is the same. If a person wants to use a different culture name, I say go for it.
For 3 people do get offended easily, simple as that. It’s how it is now, people take things out of hand. [name_f]Kinda[/name_f] ridiculous if you ask me, but apparently people were raised in a weak environment. I was raised with a rough skin and so will my kids.
Also, don’t speak to me like I’m some stupid little girl, I knew it was a Jewish name, but it’s a name I’ve always liked so I said hell with it I’ll see what people say. I did do my research, and personally don’t see anything wrong with [name_m]Cohen[/name_m].
