But I don’t know how usable it is “in real life”. Plus, I am Nordic/Italian on my moms side and Hungarian/[name_m]French[/name_m] on my dads side. SO is Filipino. I’m not sure if the name would “look weird” on a little girl who is half asian and has no English/Welsh ancestry to sort of fall back on as an explanation.
The name I am having trouble giving up my name love for is [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I say it out loud I get chills over how perfectly beautiful it is and while I don’t usually like nicknames I love the sweet nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or even [name_u]Wyn[/name_u]. My top choice for this names first middle combo is [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. What do you think of the combo? Does it sound like too much or is is a name that is usable in real life on a child and an adult? Would you think it was weird if you saw a little asian girl named [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f]?
I don’t think your ethnicity needs to have the slightest bearing on what you name your child! My Caucasian sister has a Japanese name, my [name_f]Asian[/name_f] niece has a [name_m]German[/name_m] name. All is well.
Question one: I love it! I love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] in general, but the nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] just sold it for me. I think [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] is gorgeous and happily meet one of any nationality.
Therefore, question 2, it is totally usable, and question 3, I would not think it was weird in the slightest. If we were stuck to just using nationalities we have ancestry from, I’d probably be banned from [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], Lilavati, [name_f]Anahi[/name_f], and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], which are all big favorites of mine! As long as you respect the culture it came from, I think it’s fine.
Thank you for the feedback! I wouldn’t usually get stuck on the ethnicity so much but for the fact that [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] is already very “not American” and would probably be considered unusual here so I am ridiculously concerned about it looking even more odd on a little asian girl, which I already find some people have ideas about. A friend once admitted she knew it sounded a little racist but that she was thrown off when she met asian people with American names even if they were born here in [name_u]America[/name_u], she always expected them to have asian sounding names. I suppose in the end we have to use what we love and not worry about what others think.

Sounds like you totally love it, which should be answer enough!! I think it’s bold, but not crazy over-the-top. I love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] & [name_u]Wyn[/name_u] (although being from the South it makes me think of [name_u]Winn[/name_u]-[name_f]Dixie[/name_f] grocery stores). I love the combo with [name_u]Sage[/name_u], though. I’ve always liked [name_u]Sage[/name_u]. I think it’s totally usable, and if you feel so strongly about it, you should go for it
I don’t think ethnicities should matter much, especially since [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f] is easy to spell/pronounce so it should work just fine cross-culturally.
For what it’s worth, I am [name_f]Asian[/name_f], and my birth name is [name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]. Never met even a slightest problem with it.
