my wife and i are having our first baby. i want him to have a unique name but not sound cheesy. i don’t want the little guy to have a “cute” name or a smart/nerdy name. something more edgy.
i’m stuck on a few names like [name]Pheonix[/name], [name]Felix[/name], Rufio, etc…
all i want is suggestions from everyone. i’m open to ANYTHING and so is my wife!
I wouldn’t recommend Rufio as a first name just because it sounds too close to the date rape drug ‘roofies’ to me. [name]Love[/name] Ru-fee-OHH!! from [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name] though. I think it would work better in the middle. Also I would prefer [name]Fenix[/name] spelled [name]Phoenix[/name], but I suppose that is just a matter of taste.
From your list of names, these are possible combinations that could work (I starred my favorites):
[name]Hi[/name], it is great to have a Dad here on nameberry.
In regard to [name]Fenix[/name] I think it looks better as [name]Phoenix[/name]. One day I was in the shopping centre and there was a young child named [name]Phoenix[/name] and I couldn’t get over how much it sounds like [name]Felix[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Felix[/name]?
Rufio I think this gives the impression of someone who is rough. I would much prefer the wonderful [name]Rupert[/name].
Barish I am not aware of this name
[name]Killian[/name] I am sorry this one is not for me
[name]Miller[/name] Reminds me of The [name]Glenn[/name] [name]Miller[/name] Band, not a bad association.
[name]Rex[/name] A very nice strong name
[name]Charlie[/name] [name]Love[/name] this name but it is popular
[name]Ryder[/name] This name seems to be climbing the popularity polls too
[name]Fenix[/name] as [name]Phoenix[/name] I like it
Rufio - This is awesome… but I personally would find it annoying if everyone screamed “ru-fi-OHHH!” at me all the time. So assuming there will be days when the guy just wants to take it easy, I’d say this the perfect middle name
Barish - This is interesting
[name]Killian[/name] - I really like [name]Killian[/name]
[name]Miller[/name] - I like this, but it’s not my favorite from your list
[name]Rex[/name] - This is fun, I know of a [name]Rex[/name] with a twin brother [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Charlie[/name] - This is a great name, but I don’t think it fits your “off the beaten path” criteria
[name]Ryder[/name] - This seems more ‘trendy’ than cool. I know a couple born around the time [name]Kate[/name] [name]Hudson[/name]'s [name]Ryder[/name] was
[name]Fenix[/name] - [name]Phoenix[/name] would be better, but I’ve never really been able to get on board with this name anyway, not sure why. What about [name]Felix[/name]? I think it’s so quirky-cool and I really wish my husband was on board with it.
[name]Felix[/name] Rufio is awesome.
If you’re not totally convinced, how about:
[name]Killian[/name] Rufio
[name]Killian[/name] [name]Miller[/name]
[name]Killian[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name]
[name]Rex[/name] Rufio
[name]Rex[/name] Barish
[name]Felix[/name] [name]Killian[/name]
I also like the suggestion of [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Miller[/name].
First, congrats on becoming a papa! You must be so excited
From the names on your list, first impressions are:
Rufio - great name. GREAT name. but, as someone mentioned, I wouldn’t want it as my first name on those low-energy days when you just can’t deal with people screaming RUFIOOOOO. I love it as a middle name.
Barish - I pronounce this one as rhyming with parish, [name]Bear[/name] - ish, [name]Bear[/name]-like. Not my favourite, what about [name]Basil[/name]?
[name]Killian[/name] - Has the word ‘kill’ in it so I’m definitely not the biggest fan. Maybe [name]Kellen[/name]?
[name]Miller[/name] - wonderful name
[name]Rex[/name] - cute but not my style
[name]Charlie[/name] - another wonderful one, popular but I still see it as reminiscent of being ‘off the path’
[name]Ryder[/name] - nice but trendy
[name]Fenix[/name] - Really like it, it’s like a cross between [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Phoenix[/name], it looks slightly made up but I somehow don’t mind. You might also like [name]Phinnaeus[/name]
thanks everyone for the input, i don’t know if i was clear or not but i want suggestions of other names! =) i’m not a huge fan of [name]Felix[/name] but my wife and i kinda like the idea of it.
i do like the name [name]Ryker[/name] but not my wife. =)
I know these types of names are supposed to sound “tough” and “cool”. But really all the tough and cool guys have names like [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Mike[/name]. To me it sounds like his parents were trying a little too hard. I also know a woman named [name]Phoenix[/name].
What about [name]Rick[/name] ([name]Richard[/name]) instead of [name]Ryker[/name]? Riker is a prison in New [name]York[/name].
Suggestions:
[name]Declan[/name] - This one seems really strong to me, and I have never heard it on anyone. It also seems very easygoing. (See also [name]Lorcan[/name], [name]Lachlan[/name], [name]Parlan[/name].)
[name]Walter[/name] - Another name that I never hear and would be original, yet is familiar. (See also [name]Weston[/name].)
[name]Max[/name] - It has that same sharp sound of [name]Phoenix[/name], etc., but it’s more classic and sophisticated. [name]Max[/name] has always seemed like the perfect name for “that guy”–you know…the one who exceeds in school, sports, and everything else, but everyone still likes. (See also [name]Lennox[/name], [name]Frank[/name], [name]Dexter[/name].)
[name]Everett[/name] - Another “sharp” ending, like [name]Jett[/name] (a daredevil-ish name to me), but cooler. ([name]Beckett[/name] and [name]Bennett[/name] are follow-ups.)
[name]Jack[/name] - A masculine name if there ever was one, simple and suave.
[name]Griffin[/name] - Again, definitely male, and just the sort of guy you’d want to hang out with.
[name]Jersey[/name] - I don’t know what got me liking this name. I think it was the combination of an athletic guy (basketball jerseys) and a British accent (the actual place of [name]Jersey[/name]).
[name]Fletch[/name] (nn [name]Fletch[/name]) - Impossibly awesome.
[name]Cruz[/name] - Short and makes an impression.
The first few that popped into my head:
[name]Holden[/name]
[name]Jett[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Fletcher[/name]
[name]Finn[/name] (or [name]Finnegan[/name] or [name]Finnian[/name] with the nn [name]Finn[/name])
[name]Quentin[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
Some more options:
[name]Carden[/name] (cool alternative to [name]Carter[/name])
[name]Tobin[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name] nn [name]Dash[/name]
[name]Harris[/name]
[name]Cormac[/name] nn [name]Cory[/name] or [name]Mac[/name]
[name]Sumner[/name]
[name]Lennox[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]
Lexington nn [name]Lex[/name] (this might seem a little out there, but I know a kid with this name who goes by [name]Lex[/name] and he’s really cool)
[name]Sebastian[/name]
