Having a very hard time with boy names

A little background: I’ve been a name nerd ALL my life. I’ve literally had running baby name lists since I was about 13, and before that I was had a teacher’s planner I’d play with where I’d write out names for all of my “students” and play school with my dolls.

I feel like I have REALLY high standards, and now that I’m TTC baby #1, I feel like I can never find a good enough boy name to match my enthusiasm for girl names. I also really want to keep future kids’ names in mind, which means that this first baby will set the tone for the other names moving forward.

I’ve narrowed my name “styles” down to two categories: Vintage/British and Germanic/Norse names (to go with our last name). Here are some of my favorite girl names in each category:

Vintage/British:
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]

Germanic/Norse:
[name_f]Ines[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]

,the problem is, none of the boy names I come up with for the categories are up to par:

Vintage/British:
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (WAY too serious-sounding)
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] (don’t like the American pronunciation)
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] (also too serious-sounding)
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] (don’t like the American pronunciation)

Germanic/Norse:
[name_m]Ivar[/name_m] (difficult to pronounce)
[name_m]Bruno[/name_m] (reminds me of the dog from [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f])
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] (too serious-sounding)

The names I DO tend to love for boys seem to fall outside of these two categories, and don’t seem to match my girl names:
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u]
[name_m]Rhodes[/name_m]
[name_m]Bram[/name_m]

Please help! Any idea for either category would be appreciated.

What’s the non-American way of saying [name_m]Graham[/name_m]? I’ve only heard it one way.

And these lists always help me with inspiration: Name Lists - British Baby Names

ETA: Just saw I recommended Bram to you and that’s already on your list! I think it goes just fine with your girl names! Bram and Florence would be really sweet.

I think in the UK it’s more like gray-um and in the US it can be pronounced gram. I say ‘gram crackers’

I think [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m], and [name_m]Bram[/name_m] could go with your girls names even if they aren’t the same “style”. I like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] & [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] & [name_f]Ines[/name_f].

Vintage/British:
[name_m]Bernard[/name_m] (also german)
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m]

I wouldn’t have thought it mismatched if I saw [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] and/or [name_m]Bram[/name_m] paired with [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], and /or [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], so maybe you should still consider them?

I can’t think of any to add at the minute, might edit later, but just wanted to say that [name_m]Bram[/name_m] is an amazing choice and matches your girls names beautifully.
Also are you in the US? I’ve got a family member called [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and we pronounce it [name_u]Gray[/name_u]-um (UK)

I don’t think your boys’ names are too much of a mismatch! [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] sound like a perfect pair to me, for instance! I like [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] as well

Americans kind of blur the syllables together so it sounds like “Graym” whereas in [name_f]England[/name_f] we pronounce the syllables more clearly like “[name_u]Gray[/name_u]-um”

I love [name_m]Bram[/name_m] - I think it fits with your girl choices

I am in the U.S. indeed. I’m sure we could theoretically pronounce it the UK way, I think it would just be a lot of correcting people!

I don’t think your favorites are so stylistically different that they sound “off” together With your girls list.

Also think it’s interesting that you love [name_m]Bram[/name_m] but don’t like the similar pronunciation of [name_m]Graham[/name_m]!

Good luck! You have a great list

I could definitely see [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], or [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] working with your girl names. You’ve received some great suggestions already, so I’ll avoid a long list, but some ideas that come to mind are [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. Good luck!

Haha I know! I don’t dislike [name_m]Graham[/name_m] necessarily, I just think [name_m]Bram[/name_m] has a ring to it that is extra beautiful. :stuck_out_tongue: And it seems a bit more straightforward pronunciation-wise. Thanks for the compliment on my list!

I love [name_f]Camilla[/name_f].

I totally get how you’re feeling. The boy names my husband prefers i feel don’t match my naming style or daughters name but I do like them…
Looking at your favourites, [name_u]Griffin[/name_u], i think, matches most of your girl names. [name_f]My[/name_f] top matches would be [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] matches the least.

My advice, that I should also listen to, is pick the name you love and that feels as though it fits with your little guy

Maybe…

Anthony
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Hershel[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Leander[/name_m]
[name_m]Crispin[/name_m]
[name_u]Curtis[/name_u]/Kurtis

Late late to the party, but [name_m]Bram[/name_m] is nice! I immediately thought of [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] “[name_m]Bram[/name_m]” Stoker, which feels similar enough to your girl choices, especially your “Vintage/British” choices.
