Having fun going through my class lists

I just realized that I have access to full class lists for my college classes - some of which have 200+ students - so I’m currently having fun going through the names. Thought I would post some of the standouts here. There are no genders listed, so your guess is as good as mine on some of the unisex names.

[name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Deja[/name_f]
Kolawole - beautiful Nigerian last name as well
[name_m]Earnest[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - she has a beautiful [name_m]French[/name_m] last name

[name_u]Carling[/name_u]

ETA: Oh! One of the TAs in my history class is named Jonas. He suits his name extremely well.

Anyone else have interesting names from their classes to share?

Well, I have a very, very small list:

D@rian (G)
C0rrine (sisters)
[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]
[name_m]Austin[/name_m]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_m]David[/name_m]

I cannot believe there is an [name_m]Earnest[/name_m]! So cool!

I am not in school anymore, but my daughter is in preschool and they give out a class list to each of the parents. Here are some standout names I saw…
[name_m]Jaxon[/name_m]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Ilyse[/name_f]
[name_m]Habakkuk[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m]
[name_u]Cortney[/name_u] (on a BOY)

I have

[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Janet[/name_f] (pronounced zha nay)
[name_f]Janee[/name_f] (also zha nay)
[name_u]Tobi[/name_u]
Teneiceia
Tasheye (Ta’ shay)
Frantzcesse (frances)

It’s an interesting year for names.

I’m not in school anymore either, and my daughter is too young to be in school, but I spent her entire naptime reading the names in the back of our new church directory that came in the mail today. It lists the names of entire families, not just the adults. Seeing the sibsets was fun.

There weren’t that many stand-outs, to be honest. Lots of traditional names. Some “trendy” misspellings. Some really weird sibsets. Quite a few sibsets with matching first initials - I don’t really understand why people do that. I discovered [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is one of the most common names for little girls at our church, so I’m not sure if I’m going to add [name_u]Clare[/name_u] to our list after all. There is actually another child named [name_f]Maura[/name_f] whose family attends our church, which surprised me. And lots of other Kathryns, so I don’t feel so weird about my Y. There were a number of names I couldn’t even begin to pronounce, but our church is rather large and ethnically diverse, so I suppose that’s to be expected. The only name that truly shocked me was…[name_f]Madonna[/name_f]. I mean, I’m sure the parents chose it for the best possible reason, but I just think it’s too much.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], [name_f]Brighid[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] lovely. I also really like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_u]Francis[/name_u] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].

Such lovely names. I am still in school and go to one with only just over one hundred pupils so everyone knows everyone. Mostly everyone has common or one that is well heard of so nothing that interesting.

Frantzcesse (frances)

This is an abomination. That poor child.

Also this is a perfect example of why kree8ive spellings annoy me. Frantzcesse should be pronounced, if anything, Frant(emphasis on the t)z-cess. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] is gentle and easy to speak, it just whispers out of your mouth on it’s own. It does NOT come out [name_m]FranTz[/name_m]-cess. It makes me sad to look at, it’s a beautiful name that was massacred in an attempt to look cool or unique and the result is just…gross.
