Having our boy! Help!

Boy names are hard. We are expecting our third (and likely last) child and finally having a boy. Only problem is I have no idea what to call him. I have a ton of names on my list but admit I’m particular. What haven’t I found yet?

Our last name starts with an F, has to be spelled, and has a hard S or X sound on the end so some names don’t flow (no Finley or Silas). Our daughters are Geneva Elise and Bethany Gayle so I prefer no G, J, or B names to avoid matching. The middle namesake is Andrew so A’s are out too.

I admited I’m particular. I love Classic/Colonial/Biblical names that are familiar and you don’t have to spell. If it’s in the top 100 I can’t see myself using it (Daniel, Nathan, and Caleb I loved and all on the cutting room floor). I love a good meaning, probably why I like biblical names and bonus points for biblical places. No unisex names (Robin or Rowan). Unfortunately my style is either top 10 names or obscure. I feel so unreasonable typing this out, I just want it to feel right. Girls names were so much easier, feels like boys have so few choices! Is it just me?

Out current tops:
Simon (I’m stuck on Simon says)
Emmett (husband doesn’t like)
Elliott (meh)

Some I like but aren’t “right”:
Ian
Isaac
Calvin
Dominic
Saul
Collin
Malachi
Bennett (nephew Ben)

Edit:
First thing, you all are amazing! Thank you for so many suggestions and love for Simon Andrew. I honestly feel in my gut we’ll probably end up with Simon and I just need to get used to it. He’ll just say cute things, and if he’s in trouble I’ll hear the name in my head in a British accent (on Frasier, Simon was Daphne’s deadbeat brother lol.)

I don’t think it’s a last baby thing because the boy names we chose for our girls (Ian and Isaac) we’re just the one we both objected to least lol. Boy names are hard, and you all are amazing.

This was a fun challenge! I used to have oodles of biblical names, but most of them didn’t survive my leaving the faith. I still think they’re beautiful though, so I’m always happy to recommend some to others!

From your existing ideas, my favorites are [name_m]Simon[/name_m] (great with your sibset), [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] (very dashing, though I think it pairs much better with [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] than Bethany), and [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] (just love the look and sound of this and the nickname potential). [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is a beautiful combo by the way!

Some biblical suggestions:

[name_f]Geneva[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f], and [name_m]Linus[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]

i see why you’re having trouble! finding a name that feels right, especially if it’s your last, must be hard.

you mentioned wanting to avoid the top 100, so while Elliott isn’t currently in the top 100, it’s at 168 and rising fast. i imagine it’ll break the top 100 soon. you also said that you want a name you wouldn’t have to spell, but i think Elliott would usually be written as Elliot - you’d probably have to say “Elliott with two t’s.” one of my favorite games has a character named Elliott, but online his name is misspelled as Elliot 90% of the time.

Simon seems like a great option, and i like it with Geneva and Bethany! do you think the Simon says association is bad/annoying in any way or is it just too strong? i actually think a kid might enjoy being named Simon and playing Simon says, like he’s the one who the game is about!

some other options, + meanings you may like:
Solomon - “peace”
Seth
Beckett - “bee hive” - an alternative to Bennett
Samson - “sun”
Ephraim - “fruitful”
Mordecai
Nathaniel - “gift of god”
Timothy - “honoring god”
Philip
Walter
Peter
Edward
Edmund

It’s ok to want it to feel right! Having the middle name picked out helps (it at least helped my husband and I a ton) quite a bit I feel. And I’m so on the same boat if classic/biblical/but not too overused or common names, which is so much harder to manage than it seems.

Something that helped me is, rather than focusing on the top names in the entire US, I just looked up the most popular names in my home state— if it was in the top like 25 of that list I wasn’t interested. That might slim things down for you if you look at it that way!

Looking through what’s on your plate, I truly love [name_m]Simon[/name_m]! The [name_m]Simon[/name_m] Says thing is pretty small to me at least and isn’t a negative contagion, it’s from a game! I also agree with the suggestions of [name_m]Samson[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], and [name_u]Edward[/name_u]!

A few ideas:

[name_u]Alden[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (perhaps double A isn’t your vibe but I think it’s sweet)
[name_u]Asher[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Nolan[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]

I love [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_m]Benett[/name_m]! [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] are also lovely with your girls. Maybe you could use [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] as the first?

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_u]Ezra[/name_u]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_u]David[/name_u]
[name_u]Robert[/name_u]
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Paul[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_m]Carver[/name_m]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]

I really like [name_m]Simon[/name_m] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. Some other ideas (which include repeats from other ):

[name_u]Callum[/name_u]
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m]
[name_m]Emmanuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Kenneth[/name_m]
[name_u]Leon[/name_u]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (like [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], but not ranked as high)
[name_m]Peter[/name_m]
[name_m]Richard[/name_m]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Russell[/name_m]
[name_m]Samson[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_u]Timothy[/name_u]
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m]

[name_m]Simon[/name_m] feels like it could work. I don’t think the ‘Simon’ says thing is too much. Sure, some people might bright it up, but more in the way you might bring up ‘Amazing Grace’ to a [name_f]Grace[/name_f], rather than as teasing.

With like lovely [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] and [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], I’ll suggest:

[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_u]Quentin[/name_u]
[name_m]Raymond[/name_m]
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]

I think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] works well. I don’t think [name_m]Simon[/name_m] says would be too much of an issue.
Other ideas for siblings, that might be your style;

[name_f]Geneva[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f] and

[name_u]Elijah[/name_u]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]

Congratulations!

I think naming is so hard and when it’s the final child I think there is an added pressure to nail the name.

Looking at your list I do really like Simon he’s lovely and very handsome. I suppose there is the Simon says think but honestly I wouldn’t say this would be a major concern. However I did wonder whether you thought of Simeon? I feel that he’s very close to Simon but has a slightly rarer sound. Simeon is very classic has great biblical history and the lovely meaning ‘G-d has heard’. I think Geneva, Bethany & Simeon could work wonders.

Emmett + Elliott actually feel very similar in style both Sharing that ‘e’ sound containing double letters and the strong ‘t’ maybe you’d like Everett. I think Everett is lovely and where I am is a rarity. I do believe Everett is more common in the states. You may also like Ernest which is a sweet vintage option with the lovely meaning honest. I also think Everest would be a cool option which feels ever so striking.

You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

Solomon ~ peace ~ Solomon Andrew
Tobias ~ G-d is good ~ Tobias Andrew
Nicodemus ~ victory of the people ~ Nicodemus Andrew
Ezekiel ~ G-d strengthens ~ Ezekiel Andrew
Emmanuel ~ G-d is with us ~ Emmanuel Andrew
Idris ~ lord ~ Idris Andrew
Micah ~ he who is like the lord ~ Micah Andrew
Moses ~ delivered from the water ~ Moses Andrew
Emrys ~ immortal ~ Emrys Andrew
Maximilian ~ greatest ~ Maximilian Andrew
Isaac ~ laughter ~ Isaac Andrew

Hope this helps

I like your style! Several of these were on my list at one point and a few new ones. Thank you!

That’s a really good point about Elliot/Elliott. I guess I just like double letters.

I adore the name [name_m]Abel[/name_m], it was literally the first name a mother ever chose. Only passed because of the AA initials.

I hadn’t thought of Ernest! You’ve got me pegged, I love old man names. Hmm…
