[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
We had our minds made up on a name for our second son. It’s less than 7 weeks until my due date, and having second thoughts now.
The name is Balian, pronounced bay-lee-en. It’s pronounced like [name_u]Julian[/name_u] but with [name_u]Bay[/name_u].
If you look it up on urban dictionary, it means honest and honorable person. However, someone just mentioned that the name Balion means sexual predator when you look it up on urban dictionary. It’s a different name, but unfortunately it’s pronounced the same.
Has anyone heard of this before? Is it a reason to say no to a name we love or is it far fetched? Is it common for people to refer to sexual predators as a balion? I have never heard of this.
Big brother’s name is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].
We also have the name [name_u]Maverick[/name_u] on our list but we would be settling for something we don’t like as much. Middle name is [name_m]Leo[/name_m].
So it would be Balian [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m] or [name_u]Maverick[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m].
We would appreciate your honest opinion.
Thanks.
I’ve never heard that term, but it seems like a big enough issue to avoid it.
I looked up other names and words on urban dictionary and it actually seems very informal and more opinion than actual meanings.
Agree with this. It’s a bad idea to look up any name on urban dictionary as users can contribute meanings. A quick search of Balion and Balian doesn’t bring anything up so i think you’ll be fine
I’ve never heard of that term before and I honestly didn’t even know urban dictionary was a thing people paid attention to anymore. lol I doubt anyone I know has ever heard that term, either. [name_u]Urban[/name_u] Dictionary is, by and large, rather ridiculous and I don’t even think most of the entries are true.
I agree with what others are saying, [name_u]Urban[/name_u] Dictionary is not a reliable source of information about names (or anything, really). People can create their own entries saying whatever they want, and fake name definitions are very common on there.
i never heard of the name. i love the name [name_m]Brently[/name_m] (: the singer for my favorite band Shinedown is [name_m]Brently[/name_m] [name_m]Stephen[/name_m] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] but goes by [name_m]Brent[/name_m]. i love that name (:
I know a boy who is 12 named Balian his father is A history teacher for a prominent university. I always thought his name was very cool. I think ppl upload stuff to urban dictionary as jokes. I don’t think it’s a reliable source. I lived in a big city for most of my life w many Queer friends and have never heard this term.
I’ve never heard the word “balion” before. I’d say it’s probably made up (like a lot of definitions on [name_u]Urban[/name_u] Dictionary! Users can upload whatever they like and there’s zero fact-checking). Wikipedia mentions absolutely no negative meanings for Balian or Balion so I think it’s probably fine.
