So here’s the story. We have 2 girls (whom i’ve posted about before) Rileigh and [name]Kennedy[/name]. When we found out we were expecting a little boy I was eager to name him (because I’m such a name nerd) However DH and I have COMPLETELY different tastes and he’s so stuck on 2 or 3 names that he’s not really open to anything else. SO with a lot of nagging I got him to settle on a name that was a compromise to us both,
[name]Weston[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]. And 7 weeks later I’m having second thoughts. I still like the name [name]Weston[/name], but I don’t love it. And I’m not really sure how well it goes with our daughters names. Rileigh and [name]Kennedy[/name] are very edgy girls names and [name]Weston[/name] is more old fashioned. Please give me a little advice on if this is a battle I should pick with my husband or just go with [name]Weston[/name] since I kind of forced him into settling on a name anyways. Here’s our lists, leave suggestions on what you think would mesh with both of our styles.
[name]Hi[/name] - [name]Weston[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is so handsome–I don’t see it as too old-fashioned at all. [name]How[/name] about [name]Wesley[/name] [name]Thomas[/name], instead? Here are some other suggestions:
I completely understand how reluctant you must feel about backing off from [name]Weston[/name] after reaching a difficult compromise with your husband – you’re afraid you’re going to get stuck with [name]Storm[/name]! I actually think [name]Weston[/name] is a good compromise between your two styles, which actually don’t seem all that different to me. You both seem to like unconventional names with a surname feel and a Western style. You have some choices that are more classic and he has some that are more wild-man-on-a-motorcycle, but there is a lot of common ground and [name]Weston[/name] sits solidly on top of it.
You’ve also set up a kind of challenge with your daughters’ names that might be making things more difficult. Rileigh and [name]Kennedy[/name] are both Irish surnames that can be used for either boys or girls, though they’re more common for girls. But you need to pick something more decidedly masculine for a boy, which nudges you into super-macho territory. To me, for instance, [name]Sutton[/name] and [name]Carson[/name] and even [name]Hayden[/name] on your list are too unisex for a boy with two sisters who have unisex names. People will inevitably be confused about who are the girls and who’s the boy in the family and your kids won’t appreciate that…and maybe your husband won’t either.
Yet traditional boys’ first names such as [name]Dominic[/name] or [name]Caleb[/name] don’t really work with your daughters’ names and your husband doesn’t like them. So you need a very contemporary, unisex-feeling name that is nevertheless also decidedly masculine. Hmmmm.
So what about going with [name]Weston[/name] and calling him [name]West[/name], which I like even better than [name]Weston[/name]? Some other ideas (and I’m sure the berries will have great ones too). Warning: [name]Do[/name] not suggest any of these unless you [name]LOVE[/name] them and do NOT admit you’re having second thoughts about [name]Weston[/name] until you get him to agree to something you like more:
