Thanks for anyone who contributed to my question about [name]Harrison[/name]. [name]Baby[/name] 3 is due any day and poor boy has no name. We have two little girls and I always thought we would name a boy [name]Harrison[/name] bc it’s dh’s middle name. Well, he’s decided he’s not sure at all bc of the potential nn [name]Harry[/name]. So we basically started our list from scratch two days ago. I like the short list we have but these names are so new to me, I just dont know! What do you think about these?
[name]Davis[/name] - we love this but no one else seems to
[name]Knox[/name] - are we over the brangelina connection? What kind of connotation does it give off?
[name]Harrison[/name] - I still haven’t given up on it although I think it’s going to end up as the middle name
He’ll be younger brother to sisters [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Greer[/name]. Any other names we should consider? Thanks!
I really really like [name]Harrison[/name] and I know a little boy (8 now I think) and he only goes by [name]Harrison[/name], never [name]Harry[/name]. [name]Knox[/name] and [name]Davis[/name] are both nice too, [name]Knox[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] has a nice ring to it. [name]Davis[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] sounds a off, [name]Harrison[/name] [name]Davis[/name] is really nice but maybe a little too close to [name]Jefferson[/name] [name]Davis[/name]?
I really wouldn’t toss [name]Harrison[/name] so lightly and [name]Harry[/name] is becoming more and more becoming! [name]Harry[/name] really is a stylish name right now and might be a very impressive nn when he has friends at school age.
When you see his little face, you’ll know if he is a [name]Harrison[/name].
I love the name [name]Harrison[/name]! I know 3 Harrisons and only one of them gets called [name]Harry[/name] and that’s because his parents have called him [name]Harry[/name] since birth!
If you do decide that it’s not right I think the name [name]Knox[/name] goes really will with your daughters names
[name]Harrison[/name] is so much longer than his sisters’ names. I really think the monosyllabic, strong [name]Knox[/name] is the best fit.
My absolute favorite names for you would be the shorter names that sound like [name]Harrison[/name], but have no way of getting to ‘[name]Harry[/name]’ and have no brangelina associations:
[name]Hart[/name]
&
[name]Hayes[/name].
[name]Both[/name] are spectacular next to [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Greer[/name]. [name]Hart[/name] is an old word for a stag, and [name]Hayes[/name] is a surname based on [name]Henry[/name]/[name]Harry[/name], like [name]Harrison[/name].
I do like [name]Harrison[/name], but if you aren’t set on it, I think you can find something similar enough to meet your needs. [name]Knox[/name] does connote Brangelina for me, but that might not be true for everyone.
I know 2 [name]Harrison[/name]'s and neither are called [name]Harry[/name], which does surprise me. [name]One[/name] goes by ‘H’ but never [name]Harry[/name].
I like [name]Davis[/name], its a much more modern and refreshing choice than [name]David[/name] but I’d still worry about the nickname [name]Dave[/name].
[name]Knox[/name] is great but very celebrity inspired.
I would like to second what [name]Blade[/name] said, I think [name]Hart[/name] and [name]Hayes[/name] are fabulous choices! [name]Blade[/name], you always have the best advice! I always wanted to say I love your girls’ names!!! You also can’t go wrong with [name]Davis[/name]. My next-door neighbor’s kids is [name]Davis[/name] and I love it. Much nicer than [name]David[/name] to me. She also has a son named [name]Carter[/name], you might be interested in that. Good luck!
Our son is [name]Harris[/name] and no one calls him [name]Harry[/name]. I think it is totally possible to go with [name]Harrison[/name] without nn [name]Harry[/name].
That said, with [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Greer[/name] (Amazing sibset, btw!) I prefer something shorter. [name]Harris[/name], [name]Hayes[/name], [name]Davis[/name] are all great suggestions!
I’m a bit late on this, but I definitely don’t think that it would be a problem to exclusively use [name]Harrison[/name] as a name. Since you guys are so against [name]Harry[/name] (undoubtedly the nn people will default to) I would suggest deciding on another nn option that you like a bit better. That way if someone decided they want to shorten his name you could just say “Oh actually he doesn’t go by [name]Harry[/name] but we sometimes call him…” [name]Hal[/name], [name]Rhys[/name], or something completely unrelated like [name]Champ[/name]. I think a super cute nn choice would be [name]Sonny[/name].
That being said I also really like your new consideration of [name]Knox[/name], especially alongside [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Greer[/name]. Good luck! =]
Is it the prospect of him receiving a nm that bothers you, or is it just [name]Harry[/name] that you dislike?
If it’s the former, [name]Harrison[/name] is quite a long name so it’s very possible that at school classmates may give him a nm of their own choosing. If this is the case you’re best off going with a shorter “unnicknamable” name, like [name]Knox[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] as some have previously suggested. [name]Knox[/name], [name]Faye[/name] & [name]Greer[/name] is a very handsome sibset so this option is just as great, but if you love [name]Harrison[/name] so much and feel it’s the one the [name]Harry[/name] issue shouldn’t get you down. Many Harrisons, as others have mentioned, are nickname-less.
If it’s the latter, whilst he’s young you as parents have the power to instill a different nickname ([name]Ari[/name], [name]Harris[/name], [name]Sonny[/name]) so that by the time he does go to school, there will already be a nickname for his classmates to call him by. Otherwise if you constantly refer to him as [name]Harrison[/name] he might not be comfortable with nm’s and as such will ask others to call him by his full name.
I know several guys named [name]Harrison[/name], and none of them are ever called [name]Harry[/name]. [name]Knox[/name] would be great with [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Greer[/name], although I love blade’s suggestion of [name]Hart[/name].
I absolutely love [name]Harrison[/name]! I love [name]Blade[/name]'s suggestions of [name]Hart[/name](one of my favorite names) & [name]Hayes[/name] also!
I like [name]Davis[/name] & [name]Hayes[/name] with your girl names. I agree if you really dislike [name]Harry[/name] that [name]Harrison[/name] might not work in the fn spot.
[name]Harrison[/name] nn [name]Harris[/name] could work, but in school you might not be able to avoid [name]Harry[/name].
From your list, I like [name]Knox[/name] or [name]Davis[/name] best with [name]Faye[/name] and [name]Greer[/name]. I love the suggestion of [name]Hart[/name] though and think it’s better than [name]Knox[/name] or [name]Davis[/name] (or [name]Harrison[/name]). While I like [name]Hayes[/name], it’s too close to [name]Faye[/name] so I would not use it with your sibset.
I think the nn [name]Harry[/name] would only be used if you dictated it. I know a few [name]Harrison[/name]'s and none go by [name]Harry[/name]. I like [name]Davis[/name], but don’t care for [name]Knox[/name] all that much as a first name. I love [name]Hart[/name] and [name]Hayes[/name] and prefer either of those out of them all.
[name]Davis[/name] - Sounds too much like a last name to me. Not a fan.
[name]Knox[/name] - Nerd here- I think of the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] spell. After that, I think of one of the antagonist from the show [name]Angel[/name]. And after that, I think of [name]John[/name] [name]Knox[/name], who was an important figure in the Protestant reformation- and potentially a person your child will learn about in school. If you’re Protestant than it’s really not a big deal.
[name]Harrison[/name] - And here’s where I admit that I am completely bias towards this name. I love everything about it, and I don’t think the nickname [name]Harry[/name] should be a problem. The best way to nip nicknames in the bud is to always use his full name around others. If you don’t use a nickname, than those around you shouldn’t either. Some kids don’t even like nicknames. I knew a small child who would get mad when people used a nickname. Whenever someone would call her [name]Bella[/name] she’d put her hands on her hips and say, “My name is [name]Isabella[/name].” It was comical.
[name]Harrison[/name] is a strong and fantastic name! I don’t think nickname worries should influence your decision. And trying to decide on a name that will eliminate nicknames just spells trouble and regret later. Go with what you’ve decided initially. Worry about nicknames when it comes up, but don’t let a possible nickname change your whole plans. Especially when it’s not a terrible nickname. Now, if you had a name that could potentially lead to teasing nicknames, that’d be different. But if I were you, I wouldn’t change my mind. I’d stick with [name]Harrison[/name].
