Need thoughts/suggestions for baby boy name! For some reason, I am really attracted to nature/animal names all of the sudden (although I don’t care for [name]Hunter[/name]!) Here are some I’m considering:
Hawke
[name]Finch[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Jem[/name] (after [name]Jem[/name] from “To Kill a Mockingbird.” I also like [name]Atticus[/name],
I really like Hawke! I am considering it for a middle name. I love the nature aspect, plus for me it is a reference to Hawkeye from Last of the Mohicans and [name]Jim[/name] Hawkins from [name]Treasure[/name] Island. I would probably just spell it [name]Hawk[/name] myself. I have also heard [name]Hawthorne[/name] nn [name]Hawk[/name].
Hawke | I would love to see this as a middle name.
[name]Finch[/name] | Not keen on this one.
[name]River[/name] | I really like [name]River[/name], on both girls and boys; first or middle.
[name]Jem[/name] | It feels far too feminine to be used on a boy.
I like Hawke. And [name]River[/name]. Not keen on [name]Finch[/name], especially for a boy. Find [name]Jem[/name] a bit femme and [name]Jem[/name] in To Kill A Mockingbird was a [name]James[/name]. I would probably name a boy [name]James[/name] and call him [name]Jem[/name] before I named a boy [name]Jem[/name] directly.
Other nature names:
My top three:
[name]Heath[/name]
[name]Fox[/name]
[name]Hawthorn[/name] (I probably would drop the -e since I prefer it as directly for the tree and only incidentally reminiscent of [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Hawthorne[/name])
Other ones I also like:
[name]Wolf[/name] - my brother’s middle name, and he’s always liked it.
[name]Hart[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Flint[/name]
[name]Linden[/name]
Malachite
[name]Corbin[/name] - Latin for ravin.
[name]Jonah[/name] - Hebrew for dove.
[name]Dov[/name] - Hebrew for bear.
[name]Oisin[/name] - Gaelic for deer.
[name]Zvi[/name] or Tzvi - Hebrew for deer. (Probably only usable as a middle name, though. And I prefer the Z. version and my sister prefers the T.)
[name]Ilan[/name] - Hebrew for tree.
I like [name]River[/name], [name]Finch[/name], and [name]Jem[/name]. Especially, [name]Jem[/name]. Wish it was more popular. Hawke seems a little aggressive. Maybe Hawkins?
I’m not a fan of animal names, but I just want to say that I would go with the spelling [name]Hawk[/name]. The added on e is just weird and later when the kid learns about how to spell [name]Hawk[/name], he’ll be confused as to why there isn’t an e on the end of it…
Wow Bbeth, [name]Haakon[/name] is great!
Hawke - I would definitely spell it [name]Hawk[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you prefer the surnameyness of Hawke to just [name]Hawk[/name]? To me it looks oddly misspelled.
I believe [name]Gawain[/name] (as in Sir [name]Gawain[/name] and the [name]Green[/name] [name]Knight[/name]) means “white hawk.” You could use [name]Gawain[/name] or [name]Gavin[/name] and call him [name]Hawk[/name].
[name]Finch[/name] is cute as a middle name, but I kind of prefer the soaring predator birds.
[name]River[/name]- Very wearable and handsome, with a Scandinavian feeling.
[name]Jem[/name]- I think of “truly outrageous” [name]Jem[/name] and the Misfits - the cartoon from the 80’s!
[name]Atticus[/name]- I see the appeal, but it’s too macho for me.
