Quite like [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]! Strong and stately indeed.
Generally I prefer [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] in the middle spot, but I think it could work as a first too. Fits right in with [name_u]Tate[/name_u], [name_m]Gage[/name_m], [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and other brief firsts that sound like surnames. My only issue is it sounds a little like “Hey!” which could create some confusion. My name rhymes with a lot of things, so I’m constantly turning around thinking someone’s called me. I imagine the same thing might happen for a [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]. But that’s not really a big deal.
As for middles… I could see it going either way, expected or unexpected. Since [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] is a bit buttoned-up, you could let loose in the middle.
I like enough that I just added it to my list! Since its one syllable I would do at least 2 for the middle.

Thank you all for the lovely suggestions and feedback! I especially like [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]!
I remember loving [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] when I first came across it. My instinct would be to use it in the middle spot but I like to pick unusual names so [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] does that I think! [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is really sweet.
