I am not sure if [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] is exactly outdated, but it probably is the same category as [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], and [name_u]Allison[/name_u]: Not modern, yet not dated. They seem somewhere in the middle, yet still usable.
If you’re not thrilled with [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], you and hubby might like:
I find it very dated, personally. It’s late 90’s or early 2000’s and not special to me. [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is a cute alternative, it’s vintage but not dated.
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] is sweet, but yes, I would consider it dated simply because I know a lot of adult Hayleys. I really like [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], as suggested, as an alternative.
Still, if you both like it, there’s nothing wrong with using a so-called dated name! Go with what you love.
I think it is dated, but I don’t think that’s a problem. I quite like it because of an association I have with it, so it being dated doesn’t have much of an impact.
I can see the appeal of [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], but it does feel a bit dated to me. All of the [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]’s I know were born in the early 2000s
I have a sister named this, but spelled [name_f]Hailey[/name_f]. She’s 14 now and yeah, I think it’s a bit dated for a child born today so I’d look for another name if that bugs you. It’s nothing wrong with a dated named though, some people just like/dislike it. I think the name itself is totally fine.
I consider [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] a bit dated,80s/90s like you say. It is a phenomenon I’ve heard quite often that husbands seem to suggest slightly dated names (recalling suggestions like [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Allison[/name_u], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] from other husbands I know).
I don’t find [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] to be necessarily current but I don’t think it’s dated either. I wouldn’t be shocked to meet a baby named [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]. That being said, it’s not all that exciting due to its recent popularity, especially among girls my age.
I think [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] is sweet! I dont think its too dated. I do prefer [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], though! I think [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] is fresher, and also prettier in my opinion.
Another vote for [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] (or [name_u]Halle[/name_u], or [name_u]Halley[/name_u]) over [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], which I do find a bit dated. Or even [name_f]Haidee[/name_f], which looks and sounds modern but is actually an old literary name from [name_m]Byron[/name_m] (early 19C).
What would you call her, if you could choose anything? Perhaps we can help you come up with some great compromise options.
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] isn’t dated but there’s billions of girls named [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]. She might not be the only [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] in the class.
Maybe [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]?
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] is beautiful, and I like this spelling the best. It’s a nature name in disguise and has such lovely rural, summery, harvest imagery.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about the alleged datedness. Having been popular a few decades ago doesn’t make a name any less gorgeous. In fact, from what I’ve noticed people seem to be rather proud of having been given a name “when it wasn’t popular”.
I find it funny because the only [name_f]Hayley[/name_f]'s I know are in their teens or younger, to me it’s a beautiful modern name.
@ashleyjuliette pretty much covered it on the suggestions front. I’ll add [name_u]Saylor[/name_u], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (as a short form maybe).
I have [name_f]Hayley[/name_f] on my list (even though it won’t be used because it’s my goddaughter’s name) as a nickname for [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (he-lay-nah).
I have to admit I’m not a fan of Hayley, it’s dated and it means hay. The girl I knew in school named Hayley was always skipping school and being disrespectful. How about Heidi? It means noble. I’ve heard worse though, so do what feels right I’m sure it will all turn out in the end. Congratulations on your incoming baby!
