Hazel Jae?

[name_u]Friend[/name_u] of a friend wants to name her daughter this, but she’s still unsure and asking for opinions. What do you guys think?

Jae is generally not my favorite, I prefer [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_u]Rae[/name_u], but it flows great!

Hazel is a lovely name!
Not a fan of [name_u]Jae[/name_u].

Hazel [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f], or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] all come to mind as possibilities that I think would be nicer than [name_u]Jae[/name_u], and if she really wants that particular middle I would cast a vote for the [name_u]Jay[/name_u] spelling. It gives me the visual of a bluejay in a hazel tree and that imagery makes me feel more beholden to the name even if I don’t love the sound. With [name_u]Jae[/name_u], I don’t get that same imagery.

All the suggestions other users have posted are really great! [name_u]Jae[/name_u] isn’t quite my style but I don’t dislike it, especially since [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is so pretty

I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Jae[/name_u] looks and sounds really nice! I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]

Hazel [name_u]Jae[/name_u] is sweet. I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]!

I really like the name [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] it’s a beautiful nature name with a great vintage vibe. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] sounds happy but I’m not keen on [name_u]Jae[/name_u] I agree with others [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would be more natural and I prefer [name_f]Mae[/name_f] or [name_u]Rae[/name_u]. Still the flow isn’t bad and if they like [name_u]Jae[/name_u] go for it.

Hazel Jae sounds nice!

But I would assume Jae was spelled Jay if I would hear it. Hazel Jae sounds a bit like a specific species of birds, especially with the Jay spelling in mind, like the cayenne jay, blue jay, etc.

My brain automatically “corrected” it to [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], as this sounds more natural to me as well.

Unless [name_u]Jae[/name_u] is an honour name (exact same spelling) or has other special significance, I think your friend should reconsider it, as it’s currently too much of a point of confusion. If someone on the street told me their name was [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Jae[/name_u], I would think of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] J. and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] well before I would think of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Jae[/name_u].

Not my fav but it works!
