I have posted about this name a few times in the past but I’d really like some more opinions. I usually have a hard time committing to names in general but [name]Hazel[/name] seems to be sticking with both hubby and I.
Some thoughts I had:
[name]How[/name] is this name so popular? #175? Up from #343 in 2008. I feel like on Nameberry it’s very popular but I personally have never met a [name]Hazel[/name] in my life, young or old. I’m hoping it’s established enough to be a classic revival rather then a trendy blip.
I like the naturey/color vibe. I also like the Z sound in the middle. I’ve read up on the symbolism of the [name]Hazel[/name] tree here as well…Celtic Meaning: Hazel Tree Symbolism in Ogham on Whats-Your-Sign which has made me like the name even more. To me, it just sounds like such a pretty and magical name.
I can picture it on an energetic and outgoing girl or a quiet and serious girl. It just seems to work.
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] to me sounds lovely but I’m worried it might be perceived as somewhat hipsterish. Thoughts? I’ve also played around with the idea of using a double middle to honor my great grandmother [name]Marie[/name]. Wdyt of [name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] [name]Marie[/name]? Is it too much of a mouthful? I am open to other middle suggestions as well.
Like I said, I have commitment issues with names. It’s been a long road TTC for us and I guess I just don’t want to feel like I’m settling on a name that I’m not 100% sure of. Has anyone else had this same issue? Any thoughts or feedback? [name]Do[/name] you know any little Hazels in real life? [name]How[/name] do you imagine a little [name]Hazel[/name]?
I love [name]Hazel[/name] (it’s a family name for me) and it remains on my list despite its high rank on the SSA list because I agree, it’s more of a classic revival that fits with current trends vs a new trend. I imagine a little blonde girl with curly hair but it could certainly fit on anyone. I think it’s adorable and energetic but still serious enough not to be cutesy.
I think [name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] is cute, maybe a little hipster-sounding. I do like adding [name]Marie[/name] for your great grandmother. Another idea might be to take a variation of [name]Marie[/name] as the middle name (not sure if you’d still feel like that is enough of a tribute) like [name]Marietta[/name], [name]Marielle[/name], etc. Here’s a huge list if you’re interested in it Related Name Family Tree for the name Marie - Behind the Name. Congratulations
I know it is so popular on nameberry, but I just don’t like [name]Hazel[/name]. I love vintage comeback names, but this one is not feminine enough for my tastes. I don’t hate it, but I would prefer to see it on a pet (I actually know of several pets named [name]Hazel[/name]). However, if you love it, then go for it.
[name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] is lovely. Go for it! As far as popularity, I’m sure you’ll meet more Hazels in the days to come. I know a 4 yr old [name]Hazel[/name] ([name]California[/name]) 1 yr old [name]Hazel[/name] (Uganda) and a one week old [name]Hazel[/name] ([name]Canada[/name]). All good friends of mine who gave this name to their daughters. Best of luck!
I love the name. I don’t think it’s too hipster or too common. I wouldn’t get caught up in the ranking. It’s not like it’s “[name]Jennifer[/name]” circa 1986; she’s not going to be in a class with 7 other Hazels. You connect with the name. That’s what’s most important!
I love this combo, even though they are both word names which I don’t always like. I prefer just [name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] to [name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] [name]Marie[/name], but the latter is pretty too. I don’t know or know of any [name]Hazel[/name]'s, but I am not a teacher and don’t know very many children. [name]Both[/name] [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]June[/name] seem to be very popular on nameberry. I think it’s hard to get a good sense of how popular a name really is in real life when versus on nameberry. [name]Just[/name] like there’s real life trendy and nameberry trendy, which is actually anti-trendy.
I like it It’s my husband’s first choice for our soon to be born baby, but I never fell 100% in love with it. I agree that even though it’s a feminine name, it sounds a little old and not that feminine to me. But like I said, my husband and a lot of people don’t have those hang ups.
[name]Hazel[/name] is a lovely name. It’s not obscure, so people will be able to pronounce and not mistake it for a more familiar name; yet its not so popular that your little [name]Hazel[/name] will be in a class with another [name]Hazel[/name]. [name]Nor[/name] do I think its the next [name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Chloe[/name], as it is not as soft and girlish, so unlike to climb the charts in the same way. I think it’s quite perfect.
The combination is very pretty. I’m personally not a fan of [name]June[/name], but it works well with [name]Hazel[/name].
I read the link you put up; what a lovely and special meaning. It ([name]Hazel[/name]) sounds like the female version of [name]Bodhi[/name] (tree of knowledge or [name]Banyan[/name] tree) to me.
It’s our top name right now for our little girl that’s due soon but I cannot commit because of popularity! It’s a family name too. I live in [name]Portland[/name], OR and while none of my friends have used it, they all know one or two and I have heard it at parks, grocery stores. It was ranked 48 out of 100 here. My friends who live in Ohio know several too. I think it’s a name that will keep getting more popular. It’s starting to sound trendy to me and losing its classy feel:(

I find it very Ironic how [name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] [name]Marie[/name] is our number one girls name combo which was discussed in a thread two weeks ago and you came up with the exact same combo…very strange.
I just find it ironic how you came up with [name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] [name]Marie[/name] as well when this is our number one girls name after discussing it in a thread. Weird coincidence…
It’s a great name! I don’t think [name]Hazel[/name] [name]June[/name] is trendy at all, it’s straight-up beautiful.
Why worry if people have heard the name [name]Hazel[/name] before? [name]Do[/name] you really want a name that people have never heard of and are constantly making sure they heard/said it correctly?
A name should be chosen because you love it for the child, and for the meaning behind it for you - not based on numbers and statistics.
