[name]Hi[/name], everyone! I’m not pregnant yet but I’m trying to decide between my two current top names. [name]Hazel[/name] is a family name that I love and think is totally usable and [name]Clementine[/name] is a name I have always loved but that is a little more daring.
We live in Oklahoma and I think our area is pretty good about unusual names, though I would still expect some stares with [name]Clementine[/name]. I also wonder if she would be taken seriously with such a whimsical name but I’m not sure either of those is reason enough not to use it.
We have a daughter whose nickname is [name]Bay[/name]. Her full name is [name]Bayard[/name], which peaked in the late 1800s and [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Clementine[/name] were popular then, which is important to me. Oh and our last name is very close to [name]Sanders[/name].
I guess that’s my long way of asking: Which would you choose for a sister to [name]Bay[/name]?
I prefer [name]Hazel[/name] to [name]Clementine[/name] with [name]Bay[/name]. I have loved the name [name]Bay[/name] for awhile now - never knew that it was short for [name]Bayard[/name]
It doesn’t have to be, I just wanted her to have a more formal name in case she someday decided she wasn’t a [name]Bay[/name] or that it was too nickname-y. It took me a while to find [name]Bayard[/name] and I hated it at first, then it grew on me. I think [name]Bay[/name] is great on its own as well.
[name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Bay[/name] would be lovely! Whilst in general I prefer [name]Clementine[/name], I think it’s a little too lengthy and musical next to sturdy little [name]Bay[/name]/[name]Bayard[/name]. [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Bay[/name] ARE cute together, but I think [name]Bay[/name] might feel a tad jealous of her sister’s gorgeous and feminine name (not that [name]Bay[/name] isn’t just as brilliant - it is, in a different way). Where you planning on using a nickname for [name]Clementine[/name]? [name]Cleo[/name] and [name]Bay[/name] I could see working.
I would plan to use her full name as much as possible but I’m sure at times it would be shortened. I just think it’s so pretty. I see what you mean about the contrast with [name]Bay[/name], though. [name]Hazel[/name] is my top name because it’s more useable, I just can’t decide because [name]Clementine[/name] is gorgeous, too.
I also prefer [name]Hazel[/name] with [name]Bay[/name], since they seem to go better together. [name]Clementine[/name] is gorgeous, but [name]Clementine[/name] seems a little mismatched with [name]Bay[/name]. [name]Bay[/name] is a really cool name, btw! I like [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Bay[/name] more, but I could really see either working.
I think [name]Clementine[/name] sounds better with [name]Bay[/name], but either would be cute. I prefer the name [name]Hazel[/name]. And I love [name]Bay[/name]!
[name]Hazel[/name] sounds much better with [name]Bay[/name]. And I actually prefer it to [name]Clementine[/name], so my vote goes to [name]Hazel[/name]
Thank you for all of your replies! I guess I can’t go wrong with either but since my husband isn’t too keen on [name]Clementine[/name], we might settle on [name]Hazel[/name]. I think sometimes when I have a name in my mind for so many years, it starts to lose its ‘freshness’ and then it begins to seem a little boring so I try to replace it with something less safe.
