I’m expecting a daughter (my first baby) around [name_u]January[/name_u] 9th. My first choice of name was [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], even before I got pregnant (which was a surprise), but now I’m second guessing it!
I really like earthy names, but also rather “old fashioned” names. I’m not sure why I like the latter as much as I do, but nature/gardening/hiking/camping/traveling is my life, so it makes sense to do both a nature based name and old fashioned name. I’m not sure what last name the baby will have yet… it might be [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f] or it might be [name_m]Hall[/name_m]. I considered hyphenation as well, so if anyone has thoughts on hyphenation of those two last names (too much of a mouthful?? what order??) feel free to chime in on that too.
Here is my original list:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Nelia[/name_f] (GG grandmothers name)
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (Stealing Beauty is my favorite movie and the main character is a [name_f]Lucy[/name_f])
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (more for the [name_f]Joni[/name_f] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] song than the pilot, but either work!)
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] (G grandmother’s name)
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (GG grandmother’s name)
[name_f]Sara[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (first choice, and [name_m]Bob[/name_m] [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] reference)
[name_f]Annie[/name_f] (love this because of the [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_u]Denver[/name_u] song [name_f]Annie[/name_f]'s song, but what if the baby ends up with [name_m]Hall[/name_m] as a last name! [name_f]Love[/name_f] the film too, but dunno!)
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] (G grandmother’s name)
[name_f]Nettie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] (grateful dead reference)
[name_f]Althea[/name_f] (grateful dead reference)
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] ([name_f]Maggie[/name_f]) (Grateful dead reference lol)
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f] (this seems to be a boys name traditionally, but its one of the women in [name_m]How[/name_m] to Make an American Quilt, so it cant be too masculine)
[name_f]Spring[/name_f] (Except the whole [name_u]January[/name_u] birthday thing)
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
These were my uni-sex names in case my baby felt like hiding the goods during her anatomy scan.
[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Wren[/name_f]
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]
[name_f]Snow[/name_f]
I’m looking for suggestions on more nature based names, or combinations of names I’ve listed. Also, she will be a winter baby, I always loved the name [name_u]January[/name_u], but [name_u]January[/name_u] born in [name_u]January[/name_u] seems a bit silly, then again, a [name_u]January[/name_u] born in [name_u]August[/name_u] makes no sense either…
[name_f]Althea[/name_f] [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m], with possible nn [name_f]Ally[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f], would sound oh so nice.
Hmm…
I really dislike [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. But I love [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]!
My favourites from the list which work with your surnames [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f] and [name_m]Hall[/name_m] are…
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]
[name_f]Wren[/name_f]
[name_f]Snow[/name_f] (as a middle name)
[name_u]January[/name_u]
I really like [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m] as a double barrel surname.
I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m] she’s just gorgeous.
[name_f]Althea[/name_f] is definitely one of my favorites!! I’ve loved it for ages. I’ll keep that one in mind, I just don’t know about it with our surnames!
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m] IS gorgeous. It’s very feminine though, which is probably fine but I am not sure if its earthy enough. I do so love it though!
[name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m] or [name_m]Hall[/name_m]-[name_f]Mayberry[/name_f] would be a very fun double-barrel surname! It sounds very artsy and cool.
I personally love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] just as it is (although I prefer [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] to [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]). I also love [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Althea[/name_f] (although I prefer [name_f]Anthea[/name_f]–you could do [name_f]Anthea[/name_f] nn [name_f]Annie[/name_f]?), and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] (although I don’t like it the American way, haha–only the CLAH-rah pronunciation). I think [name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m], [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m], or [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m] would all be fab! Then again I’m incredibly biased–[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is my top choice for a girl, so I find it incredibly hard not to vote for [name_f]Isabel/name_f or [name_f]Grace[/name_f]!
Depending on when she is due in [name_u]January[/name_u], that month is a time when the earth is just beginning to awaken from its slumber. Days are starting to get longer, early spring flowers like crocuses are beginning to sprout. That being said, here is my suggestion:
I know [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] is not on your initial list, but I think its Earthy, signifying the season (bryony = to sprout, ember ~ glowing). Could even do [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m] (which sounds more wintery).
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the surname [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f]-[name_m]Hall[/name_m]! I wish it was mine
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is gorgeous [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
WDYT of:
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] for G grandmother)
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Wren[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
Best of luck!
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is gorgeous. I adore it but my husband is blindly against it. It is great just as it is with [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. And I love the surname [name_f]Mayberry[/name_f].
If you decide to drop [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] I think these work best for middle names with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]:
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f] ([name_f]Estelle[/name_f]?), [name_f]Althea[/name_f]
I think second-guessing your choice is common but you have chosen a lovely name.
What about [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_u]Janvier[/name_u]…? [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] “Zhjan Vee Eh” (I think you’d say it like that)…She’s due [name_u]January[/name_u] 9th. It’s not real earthy, but it works I think. Is it too yuppie???
We have similar taste in names. I am also an outdoorsy girl and a nature and music lover too (the Dead is one of my absolute favorite bands:). [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] was our top name for our 2nd daughter that was just born but I was so torn on the name because of how popular it is getting especially in my city. After she was born, we went with a different name and although I still love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], I am so happy with our decision.
[name_f]Althea[/name_f] was on our list (because of the Grateful Dead connection) as was [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and a few others on your list. I love love love [name_f]Althea[/name_f]. It is a name you never hear and I love the song. I also love [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Good luck and congrats!
