He turned out to be a she! Bro/Sis combos

Our first ultrasound showed a well-hung little boy. We were completely confident that we were having a boy! Until… the boy parts disappeared and we’re very clearly having a girl, now? The shock wiped out any names I had started narrowing down.

Brother: [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] (goes by [name_m]Leopold[/name_m])
[name_f]Sister[/name_f] - deceased: [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_m]New[/name_m] baby: __________ [name_f]Alice[/name_f]*

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts so far are:
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]**

*Inherited middle name - must stay
She seems to have a no bullsh kind of attitude, based on the way she interacts with her daddy and big brother, and also the way she kicks away the ultrasound when they bother her, so I’m thinking this is the only name that’s truly strong enough for her. Names with a similar feel would be great!

I desperately need your help! Thank you all so much!!

I love [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] so beautiful!

  1. [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
  2. [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]

both beautiful. congrats!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] seem like strong names to me, spunky and feminine, and I think they go better with [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] than [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]. [name_f]Isolde[/name_f] is pretty but strong is not a word I would use to describe it. I wouldn’t worry too much about name flow with the middle since the middle is an honor name. As long and the first and last name sound decent together I think it’s better to find the right first name, hopefully something you love.

Other strong or spunky, no-nonsense but feminine names suggestions:
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Margery[/name_f]/[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], [name_f]Susana[/name_f]

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] is too popular for me. Maybe you don’t care about popularity, and that’s fine, but if you do you should know that [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is in the Top 75 right now.

[name_f]My[/name_f] [name_m]SIL[/name_m]'s name is [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] and she is 52. I am not kidding when I say that every single person that meets her asks about the movie [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]. Not sure if that would bother you.

I like these choices -

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - which means battle-mighty so another “tough” name
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f]

Our last name is Stanfield, so I’m weary of first names with s sounds, especially because I’ve already got one in [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

More names I love (thanks to your suggestions!):
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] - would this be a weird choice if I just about despise Southern culture?? No one would think of the country instead of the state, would they…?
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] - I discussed this with DH just this weekend! [name_m]How[/name_m] hard would it be to fend off the NN [name_f]Vicky[/name_f]?
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] - secretly after [name_f]Vera[/name_f] Wang.

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] has dropped on the list for just that reason - too popular, though the only person I know with that name is my great aunt!
I think the [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] association now will be to Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u], though I’ve gotten a comment about the movie… I’ve never seen it before, but it sounds horrible! I’m hoping younger generations won’t know about it?

Thanks for thinking with me!

I’ve never heard of the movie and I’m 15.

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favorite!

I love your new choices, though I still love [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] best. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] does bring to mind the state–and because it’s a southern state, it does have a southern feel. So maybe not the name for you…? I do find it sweet, classy, and spunky though. Which are all words that come to mind for me with [name_f]Vera[/name_f] too. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is a lovely classic, but the nickname options are a turn off. For that reason I prefer it as a middle name.

Btw, [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] was a book before a movie (and before that, a woman’s life)… and disturbing as the subject matter may be, the book was excellent. but either way, i never think of it when I hear the name [name_f]Sybil[/name_f]… in fact i’d forgotten all about it! I think you’re right that the primary association now is Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u].

I love love love [name_f]Margaux[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Vera[/name_f] & [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] (it makes me think of a character from a book, not the country or the state.) [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] has a lovely sound it makes me think of [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_m]Grayson[/name_m] (from Revenge- not a fantastic human being) and a girl I’ve never gotten along with, so I’m not a fan for that reason.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] - I love the name [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. But unless you live in an area where it is a common or well-understood name you will likely struggle with people mispronouncing it and having to correct people a lot. ([name_m]Trust[/name_m] me, you don’t want a lifetime of correcting people you meet, multiple times, every day)

Other suggestions for a strong no-bullsh** sister of [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]:
______ [name_f]Alice[/name_f]

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeva[/name_f]
[name_f]Maven[/name_f]
[name_u]Joan[/name_u]
[name_u]Isa[/name_u]
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] * female warrior
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]* - a strong no-bullsh** name, in my opinion
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Magda[/name_f]*
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Harlow[/name_f]
[name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_f]Claudette[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] or [name_f]Della[/name_f]
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Judith[/name_f]*

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f].

Wow, how early was your first ultrasound? I think it’s pretty rare for them to be wrong. What a surprise!

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] seems to fit her personality!
