He vetoed it... :(

My other half has just told me he’s not keen on the name [name]Erin[/name] which I’ve loved since forever and I just cant find another I love as much (or at all).

Help!

Thanks

What abour [name]Maren[/name]? or [name]Taryn[/name]?

Hmm…this is tough! When [name]Erin[/name] is plugged into name matchmakers names like [name]Megan[/name], [name]Kristen[/name], [name]Kara[/name] and [name]Shannon[/name] come up…not very exciting! :frowning:

Maybe you could give us some examples of other names you like (but don’t love) so we can get a better feel of your naming style.

[name]Erin[/name] is a great name, and if you love it, stick up for it! Of course, I’m partial to it, my middle name is [name]Erin[/name].

Some Ideas–
[name]Paige[/name], [name]Ellis[/name], [name]Sarah[/name], [name]Lena[/name], [name]Sage[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Greta[/name], [name]Halle[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Tess[/name]/[name]Tessa[/name]/[name]Tressa[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Skye[/name], [name]Celeste[/name], [name]Therese[/name]/[name]Theresa[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Delaney[/name], [name]Kelsey[/name], [name]Greer[/name], [name]Bronwyn[/name], [name]Bronte[/name], [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Elaine[/name]

Here are some names that seem (to me) to be somewhat similar to [name]Erin[/name]

[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Eris[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Haven[/name]
[name]Brennan[/name]
[name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Dinah[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Enna[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]
[name]Honor[/name]

Hey guys! Thanks for the help.

I think I’ve won him over to get [name]Erin[/name] as a middle name?

I like [name]Taryn[/name] and [name]Eden[/name] though.

My other two favourite names are [name]Becca[/name] and [name]Maisie[/name] but the OH isn’t keen on those either.

Oh dear!

What does HE like?

If he can’t come up with a list of his own for YOU to veto, maybe you need to give him a list of say, 20 names that you like and could live with. He gets to pick whichever one he wants. The end.

I know the berries can help you come up with a brilliant list!!

[name]How[/name] about these:
Maille ([name]MAY[/name]-lee)
[name]Brenna[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]
[name]Finn/name
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]

[name]Pam[/name]'s right - what does he like? He can’t just reject everything you suggest if he’s got no better ideas, right?

As for your names, [name]Maisie[/name] and [name]Becca[/name] are more sweet nicknames, whereas [name]Erin[/name] is no-nonsense. Which direction does he tend to favor? Or is he totally different?

If you want something with that Irish, no-nonsense, unisex vibe - like [name]Erin[/name] - you might try:

[name]Aidan[/name]
[name]Ashlyn[/name] - Or [name]Ashlan[/name], which I find more attractive personally.
[name]Casey[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Devin[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Keegan[/name]
[name]Keira[/name]
[name]Kennedy[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Reagan[/name] - Or the Shakespearean [name]Regan[/name], which is just that much more streamlined.

The issue here is that some of these have a dated feel ([name]Casey[/name], [name]Kennedy[/name]) whereas others are just plain trendy ([name]Aidan[/name], [name]Finley[/name]). The key is to find a happy-medium name like [name]Ashlan[/name], [name]Devin[/name], [name]Quinn[/name], or [name]Reagan[/name], or go for a more feminine option ([name]Keira[/name] or [name]Maeve[/name]).

NB did a great post on English [name]River[/name] Names a while back, and one such name immediately sprung to mind for you - [name]Afton[/name]. It’s one of my favorite unisex-but-not-quite names! Others like it are [name]Aeron[/name], [name]Avon[/name], [name]Cary[/name], [name]Clare[/name], [name]Devon[/name], [name]Eden[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Lark[/name], [name]Nevis[/name], [name]Perry[/name], and [name]Wiley[/name].

Then you’ve got your sweet nickname set, like [name]Becca[/name] and [name]Maisie[/name]. I’m not a huge fan of nickname names that sound like true nicknames ([name]Maisie[/name]) as they really tend toward the sugary sweet side. The key in using one of these names is to choose one that sounds sensible for years to come; the worst is to end up with something more befitting of a puppy, to put it bluntly. Anyway, here are some ideas to play around with:

[name]Abby[/name]
[name]Addie[/name]
[name]Bea[/name]
[name]Billie[/name]
[name]Bree[/name] - Now, this isn’t “vintage,” but it certainly isn’t cutesy. This is a “happy medium” name.
[name]Cleo[/name] - Or the whimsical, mythological [name]Clio[/name].
[name]Daisy[/name] - A nickname for [name]Margaret[/name] with vintage, floral appeal.
[name]Edie[/name]
[name]Emme[/name] - A celebrity mama ([name]Jennifer[/name] Lopez) used it, but that doesn’t mean you should.
[name]Gigi[/name]
[name]Josie[/name]
[name]Kat[/name] - [name]Kit[/name]'s my favorite, and I think she’s a bit more striking, but this is nice, too.
[name]Libby[/name] - I’d let this slide as a nickname name. It’s got enough “oomph” on its own.
[name]Liv[/name] - Not even a nickname, right? Modern, chic, and totally glam. One of my favorites!
[name]Lou[/name] - Again, a celeb mommy ([name]Heidi[/name] Klum) used it, and I’d say it’s pretty darn fun.
[name]Millie[/name]
[name]Nessa[/name] - [name]Vanessa[/name] simplified.
[name]Pippa[/name] - Totally British and terrifically fun, this is a winner.
[name]Sadie[/name] - Cute, but not so sugar-coated sweetness.
[name]Sasha[/name] - For [name]Alexander[/name] or for [name]Natasha[/name], [name]Sasha[/name] is a very versatile short form.
[name]Sukey[/name] - Or [name]Sookie[/name], or even [name]Suki[/name]. [name]Sukey[/name]'s short for [name]Susannah[/name].
[name]Tess[/name] - Modern and classic all in one. This short version of [name]Theresa[/name] is a winner, too.

See? There are plenty of ways to choose a nickname name without getting your sweet on, so to speak. Options that sound both modern and totally cozy - [name]Bree[/name], [name]Liv[/name], [name]Sasha[/name], [name]Tess[/name] - will get you far, but whimsical, fruity names like [name]Bea[/name], [name]Cleo[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Lou[/name], [name]Pippa[/name], and [name]Sukey[/name] are another winning bunch if you favor that vintage, feminine side of things.
