I wanted to know: have you ever heard your favorite baby names in real life?
One of my favorites my S/O and I agreed on for a girl is [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] with the nn [name_u]Isa[/name_u]. I was unsure about how [name_u]Isa[/name_u] would wear in real life but we heard it used in a tv show the other day, pronounced ee-sah and iz-ah, and we both LOVED it. (The family was also Italian, which was cool for me to see!) We also love the name [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] nn [name_m]Santi[/name_m], which happens to be the name of a former coworker of mine and I loved hearing it in casual conversations.
What about you? Have you heard any favorites irl and does it make you more or less inclined to actually give it to your baby?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] your choices! [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is gorgeous; I’ve known an [name_u]Isa[/name_u] “EES-ah” ([name_m]German[/name_m]) before and it’s lovely. And [name_m]Santi[/name_m] is fab!
[name_m]Just[/name_m] before I found out my youngest was a girl, I was volunteering at a local baby group and we had a baby boy called [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] in. That was our choice if she’d been a boy (spelt [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] but still) and I felt weirdly jealous haha! I think I always will when I hear that name, which I love and so saw myself using one day.
I love hearing [name_f]Flora[/name_f] out and about, which I do from time to time. It would probably be our choice for another girl, and it always sounds so simple, fresh and pretty to me.
Two of my favourite names - [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] and [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] -i heard in real life and that prompted me to love them!
I’ve also overheard a few others out in public - [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] -it was nice to hear them being called and actually made me happy
I’ve never met a [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]. There was recently that show ‘You’ on Netflix, where the main character was named [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] & went by her last name, [name_u]Beck[/name_u]. Which is dumb, since [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] is the most beautiful name ever! I was fine with it though. I don’t want [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] being over exposed. ;).
I’ve met a small handful of Eleanors. Or at least know of them. Friends of friends kind of thing. I’ve only heard two small one in real life at the children’s museum & school. I’ve never met an [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], but did over hear a little girl called [name_f]Nell[/name_f]. I think it was her full name though; not short for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
I’ve never met a boy named [name_m]Ewan[/name_m]. I’ve only heard it on [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] [name_m]Mcgregor[/name_m]. I’m a bit surprised (pleasantly) that it hasn’t taken off more.
I’ve definitely never met a [name_m]Colm[/name_m] either. I just read the name in a book. Maybe if I went to [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] or [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] I’d encounter more of my favorite boy names. Certainly not in the midwest U.S.
I’ve never met an [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] I don’t think? Fairly certain that I haven’t met a [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] either, but I love it!
I have a cousin named [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]! He’s 6. I also know a [name_u]Tristen[/name_u] and [name_u]Tristin[/name_u], which I find out but kinda interesting too. I also [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] that they’re getting use!
I also live in the Midwest! I grew up here actually, and you’re definitely right, Irish names like [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] and [name_m]Colm[/name_m] are not often heard (though Irish names overall are kinda popular). I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_m]Ewan[/name_m] though, as well as [name_f]Nell[/name_f] for [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. [name_u]Haven[/name_u]’t met a [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] either but I did watch You and thought going by [name_u]Beck[/name_u] was much stranger than just going by her name! I’m glad [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] are still not too popular, even among my S/O’s Puerto Rican family!
I met a ton of girls ages 6-10 at a summer camp I went to, and a lot of the had names I really loved. I met one named [name_f]Esme[/name_f], which is one of my all-time favorites.
I heard [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] irl about a year ago and it was on a little boy. It was really surprising since I’ve never heard anyone use it or mention it before. His family just calls him [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], no nickname, but I love the nickname [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] for it.
I also heard [name_u]Aza[/name_u] not long ago on A little girl. I was really surprised to see someone use that since it’s so uncommon and very unique in the states. But I love hearing it and I’m glad to see people are starting to get more comfortable using unique names.
