Heart Problems During/After Pregnancy

I’m a 27 year old who had my 4th baby 9 weeks ago. During my sixth month of pregnancy, I started having a really rapid heart rate (svt) and the sensation that my heart was skipping beats (PVC). All my drs thought it was pregnancy related, but now-2 months later-its worse! I actually fainted while grocery shopping with my youngest from the svt and ended up in the hospital. I’ve had ekgs, an echo, worn a holter monitor, but the drs seem to think I’m fine. I’m worried I’ll pass out with all my children with me and no other adult-I stay home with them. Does anyone else have any experience with this? Its so miserable to feel like youre going to just pass out and die!

[name]Hi[/name] there,

I am so sorry you’re having to worry about this right now! I’m not exactly sure what to tell you but I have dealt with pretty much the same thing for about a decade now. I have PSVT (paroxysmal supraventricular tachy) and have PVC’s from time to time too. It took [name]FOREVER[/name] for doctor’s to even believe me and diagnose it - I had to wear a heart monitor 3 separate times before finally catching it. You’re right, it’s a very annoying feeling. I’m about 20 weeks pregnant now and I’ve had a few bouts of it but I’m wondering if it will get worse like yours has - I hope not! But have they offered you any medication to attempt to treat it? I was on Zebeta for over a year and it helped quite a bit. The beginning was tough because it makes you very, very tired (lowers blood pressure, I think) but it did help. I went off of it because the cardiologist didn’t feel like it was necessary and it wasn’t cheap. But I haven’t passed out from it just yet. I just think it’s odd that you’re not getting any treatment… maybe it’s time for a new doc (cardiologist, preferably)? Or you may just need to put your foot down and say, I’m very uncomfortable living like this and I want to try some things to treat it. If your doc doesn’t listen, it’s definitely time to move on. There are a number of different meds you can try and if those don’t work, there are a couple of procedures too that can help.

[name]Just[/name] my thoughts on it, sorry if I’m kind of rambling. I’ll come back and add if I think of anything else that might be useful. I hope you can get it under control and feel better soon! [name]Feel[/name] free to pm me if you want to talk about it more.

I am so sorry for you… I hope things get better soon. As for health problems, they occurs because your body has double load. Did you doctor prescribe you any meds? Please make sure you have enough rest and don’t ignore you doc’s advice! I heard a lot of problems that appear during pregnancy go away after birth, for e.g. my eyesight became better than usual(I had myopia). You will need time though because birth and pp are also quite hard but I am sure you will go through and feel better! Hugs going your way!

Thanks for your reply! The doctors really are just brushing me off. I’m totally fed up with it, too. They’ve mentioned medicines, but said they’re hesitant abut giving me any since its not life threatening, but I feel like I’ve already fainted once, what if it happens when I’m driving-especially when my kids are with me. I probably do need to be a little more firm with the docs, but I’m a really quiet person. I have no idea if this is related to the heart stuff, but I had pre-eclampsia with this baby, so I’d urge you to be cautious about your b/p. I’m glad I’m not the only one with this-I hate it! Oh-[name]Ive[/name] been taking calcium and magnesium because I heard it might help, ever hear of that?
