I had heartburn my entire pregnancy, starting at about 7-8 weeks. I think it was because my digestive system was slower than usual… I remember only having to eat a few bites and I was so full I could barely move. Also the reason why pregnant women have constipation and gas.
[name]Glad[/name] to know I’m not alone! Thank you!
I definitely suffered from that early on! It was probably the worst symptom I experienced from about weeks 7-10. Awful, awful, awful. I never knew what heartburn was until then. I have a new understanding and sympathy for people who suffer from it chronically.
If you’re like me, it will pass. However, I am now entering my 3rd trimester, and I can feel baby really beginning to push upward, so I am bracing myself for it to rear its ugly head again.
I think my 1st trimester HB was probably from the hormonal changes and the digestive system slowing down. I think if it happens again, it will mostly be mechanical- i.e. too much baby pushing organs around.
The only thing that (sorta) helped me was to eat a few small bites of greek yogurt. It was cooling, and took the edge off of the worst of the heartburn. Stay away from chocolate! It is not your friend right now and will exacerbate everything.
Good luck. It will pass. [name]Promise[/name]
Whoops! Sorry, I just read @rowangreeneys’ comment. Poor thing dealt with it a lot longer than me. Well, anyway, I [name]HOPE[/name] it passes for you…
I hope it passes for me, too! I’m just relieved to know that I’m not alone and that there is hope!
PS - [name]How[/name] do you pronounce [name]Ione[/name]?
PPS - I love, love, love [name]Margot[/name] and [name]Calvin[/name]!
Oh yeah! I started getting heartburn the instant I got pregnant with [name]Willow[/name]. I’m not even joking. I had heartburn daily before I even knew I was pregnant!!
Well, [name]Ione[/name] is my grandma’s name. She pronounces it “I-own”. I love it on her. If we name our daughter [name]Ione[/name], though, we’ll pronounce it the more common way, “I-oh-nee”. It’s currently our front runner for a girl.
[name]Calvin[/name] is the front runner for the boy. As of now…
Well, I suffered with heart burn and other digestive problems for years. I was told to avoid cow dairy and I take probiotics and that has helped me. I am 7 weeks pregnant now and the other night I had the worst heartburn of my life! I couldn’t sleep and had to send my hubby out to buy me Pepcid AC. Believe me, I tried everything before and that is what helped me the most.
Hopefully you are not plagued with it too long, but if you are, try avoiding dairy and get some probiotics. I read up on taking them while pregnant and it is safe. In fact, prenatal vitamins will probably have added probiotics one day since pregnant women can suffer with constipation. Yogurt doesn’t have enough probiotics to really help, plus it is dairy. You can find active live cultures in pill form in the fridge in the health food section of your grocery store.
A friend of mine always had digestive issues too and she said they worsened during her pregnancy. ugh
Good luck!
