Hecate?

A guy I know said yesterday that Hecate was his favorite name, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. How do you think this name could work in today’s world? After all, Aurora and Athena work well. How does it sound to you? Anyway, any feedback you have is welcome

I’m not a big fan on the “heck” sound, but it does feel kind of earthy and mystical

Oops! In my language, the name is pronounced Gekata with a hard G, so I didn’t think of that sound

I always forget how to say it. It’s the witch or warlock from [name_m]Macbeth[/name_m], right? That turns me off, but others might like it for that reason.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m], I’ve never come across that pn before! I kind of like it - it still has that intriguing feel

I do like Hecate, it’s been on my list for a while. Mostly as a GP or as a middle name.

Out of curiosity, what language do you speak? It’s okay if you don’t want to answer that question.

Gekata wouldn’t be my preferred pronunciation. It reminds me of geckos. Sorry!

Russian

Mostly as a GP or as a middle name.

Yeah, I think that would be a pretty middle name with some more traditional first name

I love the mythological and witchcraft connections with the name! The sound is a little harsh for me to commit to it as a first name but it’s a strong contender on my middle name list.

i love hecate! it has a fantastical sound to it, and i love the connotations of it. with the “heck” sound in it, it may be a bit too much as a first, but i’d use it was a middle in a heart beat.

I really love it with the Russian pronunciation! [name_f]English[/name_f], I’m not so keen, but I still think it’s quite cool!

I love Hecate!!! It’s one of my favorites, I have the combo [name_f]Hecate[/name_f] Delamira [name_u]Psalm[/name_u]. I love the dark and gloomy yet elegant and sparkly feel it has to it, and the possible nn Katie/Katy/Kate make it a lot more usable for me

I appreciate its history but it sounds choppy and harsh to me. The meaning is nice.

But it starts with “heck”.

There are better names from mythology.

Kind of where I’m stuck with it.
