[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’d love some help with brainstorming a name for our next baby.
We are thinking about a girls name to go with our daughter, [name_u]Marley[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. We want to use the name [name_f]Helena[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f] as either the first or middle name as this is a family name.
We tend to like names that are unisex or not super girly sounding, not overly popular and not too long. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] was picked as Marley’s middle name as it’s a family name.
Open to any suggestions. Our surname has 3 syllables and starts with H.
I like [name_f]Helena[/name_f] for the middle spot!
As firsts I like:
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_u]Alex[/name_u]
[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] feels like a great complement to classic [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] in the middle.
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] actually fits your requirements pretty well! If it’s a touch too girly sounding for you, I wonder if you’d consider [name_f]Leni[/name_f] or [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] as a first name? I think that would fit brilliantly with sister [name_u]Marley[/name_u].
Would [name_f]Helena[/name_f] clash a bit with your H three-syllable surname?
If so, here are some [name_f]Lena[/name_f] suggestions (she’s lovely and fits with [name_u]Marley[/name_u] beautifully):
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u]
[name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] [name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_u]Hayden[/name_u] [name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_u]Malone[/name_u] [name_f]Lena[/name_f]
How are you pronouncing [name_f]Lena[/name_f]? We’re planning on naming our daughter Lena/Lina (haven’t decided on the spelling yet but will pronounce it LEE-nuh) and we also have a three-syllable last name starting with H!
I think [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and [name_u]Marley[/name_u] would make sibling names. [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and [name_u]Marley[/name_u] sound more stylistically different to me than [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and [name_u]Marley[/name_u], but I don’t think they sound bad together. I do wonder if [name_f]Helena[/name_f] might clash or rhyme too much with your last name though - so maybe it would work better as a middle name spot. [name_u]Or[/name_u], you could nn her [name_f]Leni[/name_f], which would be really cute with [name_u]Marley[/name_u]!
If you’re looking for a more unisex name to go with [name_u]Marley[/name_u], I think [name_u]Laine[/name_u] would be a great choice! You could also called her [name_f]Lainey[/name_f] as a nn which would be cute! [name_u]Laine[/name_u] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] sounds really nice!
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] ( thanks @Victory55)
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (thanks @VEL)
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_f]Lena[/name_f] (thanks @Greyblue)
[name_u]Eden[/name_u] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (thanks @katinka )
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Ray[/name_u] - I also like [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] (thanks @fairy)
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] (thanks @hpdvk ). We’ve had [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] on our boys list for ages but I love this pairing.
@katinka I love the suggestion of [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. It sounds very cool and goes well with [name_u]Marley[/name_u].
What a coincidence! It’s a beautiful name - my grandmother was [name_f]Helena[/name_f], called [name_f]Lena[/name_f].
We are going to pronounce it the same way as you.
You make a great point about the style of [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and [name_u]Marley[/name_u] vs [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and [name_u]Marley[/name_u]. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] definitely feels the better choice if I use it in the first name spot, and with the suggestion of [name_f]Leni[/name_f] as a nickname, [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is looking even more perfect.
What are you thinking as middle names for your [name_f]Lena[/name_f]?
I love it! [name_f]Leni[/name_f] is a such a cute nn!
We picked [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] for a middle name for our [name_f]Lena[/name_f]! She’s due at the end of [name_u]November[/name_u] so we liked that it reflected the season!
Congrats- I love both [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] esp pronounced this way. I agree [name_f]Lena[/name_f] pairs better with [name_u]Marley[/name_u] and especially love [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u]
