I recently named my second daughter [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Helena[/name], intending to call her [name]Eliza[/name]. (Her sister’s name is [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]). However, as time passes, I’m feeling conflicted and now think I might prefer [name]Helena[/name], pronounced heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nə. [name]Eliza[/name] seems more cheeky and fun, but [name]Helena[/name] is maybe softer and more sophisticated. Thoughts? Which name do you prefer? Which do you think goes better with [name]Vivienne[/name]? Thanks!
I prefer [name]Helena[/name], personally. I agree with you that it sounds softer and more sophisticated. [name]Eliza[/name] reminds me of the nickelodeon character. Your daughters have such beautiful names btw!
I believe she’s already given her daughter the name [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Helena[/name] and it’s official on the birth certificate and everything, [name]Lori[/name] [name]Johnson[/name].
I absolutely love both [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name]… I think I prefer [name]Helena[/name] at this point, but I really love [name]Eliza[/name], too. Have you tried calling her both? Seeing which seems to suit her better? I think both are great with [name]Vivienne[/name] and both are fabulous names. If you prefer [name]Helena[/name] and it suits her more, why not call her [name]Helena[/name]? I think it’s a great name.
Good luck!
They’re both beautiful names, but [name]Helena[/name] is a personal favorite. I suppose it just depends which one fits her better…
I really love both [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name] so much!! And I think [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name] are beautiful together. [name]Helena[/name] is pretty too. I agree with [name]Ash[/name]; try calling her [name]Helena[/name] for a day or so and see if it feels right. Maybe her little personality seems to fit the name [name]Helena[/name] better? Since its her mn, I think you’ll be fine with whichever you choose. I feel your post partum dilemma; I started second guessing my DD’s name, debating whether to call her [name]Madeline[/name] (line prn) or [name]Madeleine[/name] (lehn prn); it’s been a big deal for me that I went back and forth on, but ive settled on our original choice in the end and I feel good about it. I hope for the same clarity and confidence for you!!
Agreed. The only problem is, with [name]Helena[/name], you’ll have pronunciation problems.
[name]Helena[/name] is gorgeous! [name]Helena[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a great combo and a better sibling name for [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Eliza[/name] has always sounded a bit frumpy to me. You are right that [name]Helena[/name] is a sophisticated sounding name, as is [name]Vivienne[/name]. You should definitely switch her name around.
i actually like [name]Eliza[/name] better than [name]Helena[/name] but I could see [name]Helena[/name] being a better fit with [name]Vivienne[/name]. but honestly i think both work nicely, or even the full [name]ELizabeth[/name]. just pick the one you like better and don’t worry about the fit with vivienne bc with two nice choices it is which standalone name you like better…
I like just [name]Elizabeth[/name]. It’s classic and beautiful as is.
[name]Both[/name] are lovely! I do have a soft spot for [name]Helena[/name], though.
Thank you very much for your helpful responses. After much deliberation, we have decided we are happy using the full [name]Elizabeth[/name]. We think it suits her well and has the sophistication of [name]Helena[/name] without the pronunciation ambiguity. It also offers more nickname choices for the future. At last, I have some conviction about what to call our baby!
Oh that’s great! I’m really happy for you. [name]Elizabeth[/name] is one of my absolute favorite names, beautiful, classic and sophisticated! I think you made a great choice.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]! And if you’re still hunting for a middle, [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Helen[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Helena[/name] are both nice.
So, this is my final update. We have actually ultimately decided to call our youngest daughter [name]Helena[/name] (heh-[name]LAY[/name]-nə). We’ve been using it for several months and are happy with our decision. I intend to fill out the paper work to change her name to [name]Helena[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] from [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Helena[/name]. My husband decided he wasn’t crazy about [name]Eliza[/name] and I found [name]Elizabeth[/name] very formal. We were so fickle but got there in the end. : )
[name]Helena[/name], [name]Eliza[/name] makes me think of [name]Eliza[/name] Doolittle
i love [name]Helena[/name] and think it’s very sweet, lovely and somewhat elegant name. but also like [name]Eliza[/name]. it sound classic, and stylish.
Definitely [name]Eliza[/name].
[name]Helena[/name] seems so sweet and soft. It’s much more subtle than [name]Eliza[/name]. I always picture a [name]Helena[/name] to be beautiful and glowing.
I like [name]Eliza[/name] better, I have never been a big fan of [name]Helena[/name] but I find [name]Eliza[/name] pretty, elegant, spunky, can be all - good for child and adult. i also think its less confusing to be either [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Eliza[/name] - not that [name]Helena[/name] isnt totally doable but since I prefer [name]Elizabeth[/name] adn [name]Eliza[/name] anyway the fact it is easier is another plus for me
[name]Glad[/name] you chose [name]Helena[/name]. It’s one of my favourite name and while I adore [name]Elizabeth[/name] too, the short [name]Eliza[/name] has no appeal to me.
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Helena[/name] are equally pretty. It is indeed easier to use the first name, but calling with mn is okay too (at least for me, since I’ve been called with both my fn and mn).
