Heloise. Tell me about it.

Recently I’ve been crushing a little on this name, although its not something I’d ever be likely to use, I wanted to see everyone’s thoughts, impressions, reservations, etc.

[name]Heloise[/name].

Is the ‘Hel’ too much? Does it somehow come off stronger than the ‘Hel’ in [name]Helen[/name] or [name]Helena[/name]? Would she always be ‘[name]Eloise[/name]?’ ‘No, no, [name]Heloise[/name], with an H’. Or is it fantastically underused and quirky?

So! Where do you stand on the name?

The first thing that comes to mind is the Good Housekeeping magazine advise column “Ask [name]Heloise[/name].” It is a little too heavy of a hel sound for me - much more than [name]Helena[/name] or other hel names.

Wow, I completely forgot about that association! Interesting…

anyone else?

I much prefer [name]Eloise[/name] and I thought of Ask [name]Heloise[/name] too.

But it is definitely quirky and underusued. I don’t think the -hel part is any worse than with [name]Helena[/name] and she’s being used so I think if you love it, use it.

Hmm. To me, the Hel sound is somewhat stronger than in [name]Helen[/name] or [name]Helena[/name], not in sound, but just because those are names that I’m used to hearing so I don’t think about the Hel sound all that much. Also, in my accent/dialect, I realize saying it aloud it sounds a lot like Halloween! : D. Probably not true everywhere though. All best!
